I bought Asus P6T. mobo with i7 920. I used hynix chip memory (i know its not good but i had no choice) 2X2 4GB DDR3 1600MHZ. Now the problem is mobo wont detect any ram at all. I checked the ram on gigabyte DS3 ddr3 supported mobo and it runs fine. So wat can i do to solve this ??

Well I read the manual but my everything seems to be a match. But wont recnize it no matter what. Then i tried a 1333MHZ transcend memory and seems to be working. But why not my 1600MHZ??

Dude, your not getting it. You need triple channel memory, not dual channel memory. That means you need 3 identicle sticks of memory to work. You need 3gb or 6gb of memory, not 4gb.

.....and of course the memory worked on a DS3R, thats a s775 mobo, not a s1366.

Where does it say you need triple channel. You can use 1,2, or 3 sticks of ram or more as long as it is ddr3. if you only have two sticks it runs in dual channel not triple, that's all.

OP, your problem is the voltage. The set you have is set somewhere between 1.8 or 2.1 volts and 1366 works with a max of 1.65 volts. This means your ram re

Continued... Sorry- it won't let me edit for some reason.

This means your ram requires more voltage than the MB can give. You might be able to adjust the bios so it will work, but they might just be incompatible parts.

Any X58 board whether it has 4 or 6 slots will run in single, dual or triple channel depending on how many sticks of ram you install. Again please read any X58 motherboard manual, go to the manufacturer website of any brand download a X58 manual and read the RAM section. It is all very detailed that it will run under any configuration. Just because it supports triple channel does not mean it has to be triple channel.

lol zipzoom maybe you should read the manual :kaola:

and OP enjoy it when it gets up and going :bounce:

The memory controller is actually three memory controllers, so what caniba says is true, they can operate in single, dual or triple mode.

Think this might work -> Corsair 4GB DDR3 10666C9 1333MHz XMS3 TwinX Dual Channel Kit (2x2GB) (TW3X4G1333C9)

Yes its voltage is 1.6, so it is good to go for a X58 board.

OK I'm new at this so please hang with me.
I'm a little confused about a couple of things with the P6T MB.
1) Asus website (& others) state about the P6T as, 6 x DIMM, Max. 24 GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)*/1866(O.C.)*/1800(O.C.)*/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 Memory

...NewEgg has the P6T

at "Maximum Memory Supported 12GB,,Memory Standard DDR3 2000(O.C)/1600(O.C)/1333
Also, I've seen others state Max supported memory 2GB per slot
WHO'S TELLING FIBS?

2) I understand that the MB will accept the different speeds of ram, but the 1600 is listed as an over clocked option.
Q) If I install the 1600, will the MB recognize it as 1600 , or will I have to remind it every time the system boots up?

As of now, here's the choices (assuming) 12GB max.

This will be a build for my Brother, who is NOT a Techie, nor a gamer.

All advice will be greatly appreciated
3) Also, any advice for a good performing, inexpensive , PCI-e Vid card.
4) What Asus will accept the 24 GB of memory?

I just ran into the same problem. I've got a new P6T Deluxe with 3 sticks of Kingston HyperX 2000 (KHX16000D3T1K3/3GX), and it won't boot at all. After talking with Kingston, they told me the P6T works with 1333, and that you can usually go up one step (to 1600), but not two steps to 2000. So now I'm working to downgrade my memory to 1600 and see if that works.

Intended configuration:
Asus P6T Deluxe
I7 940 quad
Sapphire Radeon 9850 x2
(whatever memory I get to work)
Seagate Cheetah 146gb 15k rpm SAS
Antek 900 case
Antek 650 watt power supply

frrd70 - 1) the manufacturer should be correct before a vendor.

2) This Gskill is very good

Also the Corsair you linked is very good. Unless you intend to OC the 1333 will be just fine.

jokeboy, That is a strange issue. The board should underclock the ram to a slower speed automatically and then you could change multipliers to get it to its rated speed. The P6T every once in a while has issues with the ram slots, You can read up at the asus forums for more info. I hope you get it worked out.

caniba, that's what I expected too. Without any memory, the board beeps once and fails to boot (with basically *everything* except the cpu uninstalled). With the DDR3 2000, in any combination of 1, 2, or 3 sticks in the orange slots (all six combinations attempted), it does nothing. Regardless, it never boots. Asus said "check with Kingston". Kingston said "that's too fast, downgrade to 1333, maybe 1600".

I found plenty of sites like Tom's and others out there who tested the Kingston DDR3 2000 3GB memory when it came out, using the P6T Deluxe as the platform, and they all said it was fine. Best answer I've got is that you have to boot the P6T at least once, so as to get to the BIOS and tweak XMP, and *then* you can use faster memory (which is probably what all of those memory benchmarking processes do). But you have to have memory to allow it to boot before you can do that. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but it's the only explanation I can find.

Zipzoomflyhigh is an idiot. You don't HAVE to use triple channel memory just DDR3. It could be that your DIMMs are bad.

It is worth a try if you don't have to buy new ram.

Your ram needs to run through memtest but you need a system that posts to run the test.

Does the board give you the proper error beep code if you try to boot with no ram? If you don't get the correct beeps than the problem is most likely the Mobo.

It gives me a short beep with no memory. The manual says that means "VGA detected, quick boot set to disabled, no keyboard detected", but the Asus guy said it means "no memory", so I assume that's right.

Best guess is memory problem or CPU problem. But the beep suggests CPU is fine. And I've tried each memory stick standalone, and other people have used the same memory with the P6T, so I'm skeptical about memory. It feels more like the board needs some setting to function with the memory that I'm missing. Voltage shouldn't be an issue - the memory is 1.65v. And I am getting the blue LED beneath the memory.

I doubt it is the cpu, unless there is a bent pin or something. Your mb will need to be tested with different ram or your ram tested with a different mb.

I seem to have isolated the cause. The system booted to BIOS after I removed the mobo from the case. There was apparently a mobo case short somewhere. Sigh.

Thanks for the help, caniba.
