Routers are limited by the govt for transmit power and most times have similar performance. If you want better WIFI coverage, then adding WIFI access point(s) is the best answer. Probably. They are the worst implementation. Some kind of wired connectivity is better. Ethernet cable is best, then MoCA (coax), then powerline and finally WIFI extender.So a wifi extender wont work?
