I like the idea, I think it would be neat if it were also Copper/Aluminum to Act as a heatsink for various chipsets to accompany its air shroud design...

[citation][nom]brianmoz[/nom]I thought what made spartan's stand out is how naked they were.[/citation]That, and whenever they saw their boyfriends.
PC component manufacturers certainly have a monopoly on tacky. Better to wait until the Sandy Bridge launches and mobo manufacturers iron out the bottlenecks.

This is a horrible idea. Seems whoever designed this didnt make it through physics 101.. Path of least resistance.. perhaps even basic high school science. With no fan to cause a low pressure area inside the "vest" air will not go under it. And with it covering the sides of the other heat sinks the air wont be blow through the fins, but across the top only. This same concept has been in use in servers for over a decade, and this is nothing more than a marketing ploy at best. Rip it off when you get it, or buy one that doesnt have it, cause this boards gonna cook.

I agree kurrgan. If they provided some sort of crossflow fan this might have been a rather good idea. Also, this thing would have to have a filter-intake because this will trap dust like crazy! Nice to see that Asus is at least trying out new ideas.

As for looks.. It does look rather sharp. I would suggest a model with a clear cover as well (for us geeks who like to gaze at all the good stuff)

Would convection now help it draw air in as well. This is also physics 101. Heat rises pulling cool air in the bottom openings. This fully depends on some kind of channels under the "vest"

I still hold out hope that that little trap door is a fan slot :) But maybe its the battery/cmos reset.

Looks cool...i wonder if dust will block the air flow....and how can we know when to dust it any way? transparent casing is a better option i think...with optional LED lightning and "tatoo" it can look grate in a gaming case.

"There is a little hatch where the northbridge cooler would usually be, it is removable and allows users to install an included fan that sucks exterior air into the Tactical Vest and is then channeled to various critical locations. The end result is a significant (up to double-digit) drop in the operating temperatures of the motherboard's various controllers and other SMDs."

what ever happened to future PC components coming out with lower TDP, and such, thur requiring less power to run, green this, energy that,

it seems as time goes on, the need for Skydiving Jetpacks and Liquid Nitrogen Absolute Zero Pluto Freeze cooling methods, is growing.

Creative to say the least, I love the clean/refined look to it, nicer than the "bare circuit" approach cant wait to see performance numbers on its cooling abilities. Little slow on reporting again, I read about this a week ago.

It definitely looks awesome and would feel much safer to work around with all the surface mounted components being shielded like that.. in fact, its badass. If the temps are even slightly lower with this design, i'm definitely looking at this board for a new build.

I am wondering how the whole cooling process works tho, especially with vertical coolers that are set up to blow out the back instead of blow onto motherboard...

[citation][nom]wotan31[/nom]The idea isn't new. This is called ducting. It is used extensively in the computer world- just not at the consumer level. Think the 4+ Ghz POWER7 cpus in IBM mainframes. I wonder how effective this one is though, or if the design was dictated mostly by aesthetics.[/citation]
Likely aesthetics, quite simply that sort of cooling is unnecesary in the average persons computer. Will it help? yes but not enough to be worth it unless you like the aesthetic, or as someone said for screwdriver protection 😉 .
