I'm trying to burn some MP4's to a disc(completely new to doing this btw) and the bluray drive I have wont recognize the empty blu ray I'm using. It just shows that there's no disc inserted. I've tried it on my Windows 11 desktop, my Windows laptop and my Ubuntu desktop same issue across all devices.
I have this BR drive:
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-Components/Optical-Drives/External-Blu-ray-Drive/SBC06D2XU/
And these BD-R discs:

I don't think the burning software is the problem but I tried K3b on Linux and AnyBurn on Windows as well as Window's built in burning software. The drive also showed up blank on Windows File Explorer

What kind of usb ports are available on your desktop; are any of them designed to provide higher power levels to the usb devices? Does the drive at least play back a prerecorded disc and have enough power for that? You might have to consider a self-powered usb hub if none of your existing ports can meet the power requirements of the burner e.g.

The drive I have comes with a usb cable that breaks off into 2x Type-A ports one is purely for power based on the thickness and I've tried using multiple ports on my PC as well as powering the drive off of a 2.4a USB wall charger and as for if it plays regular Blurays I'm currently trying to find out. I don't have any on me rn but I'm going to get some tommorow. Will update when I find out.

If there's a Redbox nearby you could use one of its blurays or even dvds to try and see if playback works. It appears that clearly power is not a problem.

No I have Blurays they're just all at my dad's house. Anyway I took a gamble and got a new drive from LG and the Blurays read just fine now. Guess Asus's qc is not the greatest.
