ASUS VG248QE 24" Monitor on sale, Is it worth it?

I currently have a

SyncMaster BX2235 Samsung Monitor (21.5"). I'm looking to upgrade monitors, I tried overclocking this one to get 75hz but it won't go past 65 hz. (I am using a regular DVI cable and not Dual Link Cable though I doubt that would make a difference).

Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm mostly looking for an increase in refresh rate, not so much the 3D.

I'm from Canada so I go with Canadian pricing/availability. I'm not too comfortable ordering online unless it comes form here only because I usually get screwed for import fees.

Here are the couple of great monitors, only the problem is the first 2 are only 24 inch but provide a little more performance remember i said little, while the third one is 27 inch but provide a little less performance but then it is costly.

Oh sorry i am really sleepy right now so i ignored the question and just went to read the details. Yeah if you are getting the first monitor on sale go ahead and grab it at once it is a great monitor and i personally recommend it. Sorry for the ignorance though.

I picked up a VG248QE a couple of weeks ago for €200 (~$260)
I'm loving it so far. It takes quite a bit of work to properly adjust the settings as the standard presets are unbelievably horrible. After that, smooth sailing. If you're looking for 144Hz then this monitor will give you the best bang for your buck.

I'm loving it so far. It takes quite a bit of work to properly adjust the settings as the standard presets are unbelievably horrible. After that, smooth sailing. If you're looking for 144Hz then this monitor will give you the best bang for your buck.

If you don't mind me asking but what settings did you use? I changed brightness, contrast a bit and switched to RGB mode, but something still feels a little "off" thought it might be a placebo effect. Can you send me your monitor settings?

I also tried using Nvidia Control panel but tbh modifiying through monitor settings seems more effective..

I've been using the Asus VG248QE for about a year now, and I must say its a fine monitor for the price.

I'm going to upgrade it soon with the Asus 27'' ROG Swift PG278Q at 2560x1440 which should have better colors besides the other benefits it has for gaming. It also runs at 144Hz and is probably the fastest monitor you can get to date.

I simply cannot afford that it's almost 5x's the cost of this monitor lol. My personal rule (again only mine) is I spend 200-400$ Max CAD/USD for a monitor just because anymore and I feel obligated to buy a TV instead or a video card😛 Maybe after I'm done school I'll have that opportunity but with tuition being almost 15k lol I can't haha.

For a very simple calibration that is free, go to the start menu and type "calibrate" in the search for files and programs. It's not the most advanced thing, but it will help you adjust it a lot better than nothing.

So you bought it?

Well, I tried a lot of different things (especially ICC profiles) but for some reason when I switched back to the standard ICC profile (for better compatibility with games and because all those profiles had too little gamma for me, couldn't see anything in the dark), things looked much better. So you might want to mess around with it if it doesn't look good for you. My settings:

Splendid Preset: Theater Mode (better colors than Standard and more options for customizing)
Brightness: 35 (turned down from 60 over the course of a couple of days, it seemed way to dark at first but it really isn't, it's much easier on the eyes)
Contrast: 60
Saturation: 60
Color Temp.: User Mode -> R: 99 G: 98 B: 87
Skin Tone: Natural
Sharpness: 50
Trace Free: 80 (performs much better than 100 for some reason)
ASCR: Off

I didn't change anything in the NVidia control panel and I didn't use any third-party software (in the end anyway).
