The inflated HDD prices forced me to choose the cheapest one I could find. If you want to install something on a faster drive, use ASUS' RAM Disk software.

Erick's Badass Budget Powerhouse

Processor: ASUS Sabertooth X79 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - $894.98

Motherboard: Motherboard included in combo with processor. See above.

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) - $89.99

Graphics Card: ASUS EAH6950DCII/2DI4S/2G Radeon HD 6950 -$284.99

Hard Drive: HITACHI HDS721050CLA362 (0F10381) 500GB (Free 24x DVD burner w/ purchase, limited offer) - $99.99

Case: XION XON180P ATX Mid Tower Case - $49.99

Power Supply: Power Supply included with case.

Cooling: Corsair CWCH50-1 Hydro H50 CPU Liquid Cooler - $64.99

DVD Burner: Included free with the hard drive.

Total: $1484.93

The combos save quite a bit of money. Hard drive prices have raised due to the flood in Thailand so I probably could have saved more money if the hard drive was bought a few months ago. This is actually a pretty good rig for the price. =]

Fry's Friday ad helped me build.
Processor: The Cheapest CPU for LGA 2011, $600
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X79 Motherboard $340
Rebate: CPU & Mobo -$45
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw X Series 8GB Cas7 $65
Graphics Card: ASUS 6850 Graphics Card $160
SSD: Corsair Force GT 120 GB $185 from Fry's
Secondary Hard Drive: 1TB WD Caviar Black I have spare, lying around, $0, but link to Amazon anyways
Case: Antec 300 $38 from Fry's
Power Supply: Seasonic 650W Modular $100, after $30 off w/ promo code EMCJJJE54, ends 11/21
Cooling: Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo $35
Cooling: Adapter for Coolermaster $2
DVD Burner: Liteon DVD Burner $20
I rounded all the prices, but if I did my formula in Open Office correctly, that's roughly $1 under budget.
The Power Supply can be swapped for the 620W M12II for $90 if the rebate code doesn't count after it has expired, and then I'm $11 under. The seconday HD is optional, but I included it because I would want it in the build. I realize it would be no fair if I said I had a spare 3930K CPU, but this is just a spare HD I have new in OEM packaging still. I suppose I could put it for sale on ebay, for $.01 and charge $200 s&h.

Cool N'Quite

Trying to get the most cool system by picking quality components that reduce heat through more efficient design. Quite, cool system with a smaller carbon footprint without the sacrifice in performance.

Processor & Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth & i7-3930K $894.98

RAM: G.SKILL ECO 8GB $89.99

1.35V(cool stuff here), 1600 quad channel and 8 gigs.

Graphics Card: ASUS ENGTX560 $199.99

"...temperature did increase by 13 degrees Celsius after... over clocking under a full load... remained cooler than a stock Radeon HD 6950. The stock ASUS ENGTX560 Ti DCII TOP finished at 19% cooler than the Radeon HD 6950, and the overclocked ASUS ENGTX560 Ti DCII TOP 4% cooler... Radeon HD 6950. Note that the fan was not at 100%..."-HardOCP review ASUS ENGTX560

Plus an Asus shirt!

Hard Drive: OCZ Vertex Plus $79.99

Can't get any more cool than an SSD.

Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 912 $59.99

"This is an extremely nice mid-tower. This case is designed for extreme airflow, hence the name, but also gives you the option of water-cooling..."-ClubOC.net

Power Supply: FSP Group AURUM GOLD 400W $76.99

Gold rating more efficient.

Cooling: CORSAIR H40 $74.99
