Asus Z97-A vs. Maximus VII Hero

Hi. I'm planning to change my processor, motherboard, and memory in the near future but I noticed something. In ca.pcpartpicker.com, it was indicated that the Z97-A has a higher rank than the Maximus VII Hero. Although browsing through this website, it seemed that the latter is more favored. I would like an explanation, whether it be simple or detailed, on the main differences between the two that should concern an avid gamer like I am. Because price wise, Z97-A is better. But I believe that there is something with the Maximus that makes the extra buck worth it, as a lot of members here have said.

The HERO is the better board , I own 2 of them.

I noticed from i7Baby's link that the Maximus has 0 PCIE 4x slot while the Z97-A has 1. How specifically is the HERO is better than the A since I have two GTX 970s that run on SLI?
