Question Asus Zenbook - Random BSOD

Hey Guys,

since a forced BIOS Update from ASUS via Windows Update my Laptop is running in a couple of problems.
The most annoying ones are the random bluescreens (DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION).

The Bluescreens just appear randomly, sometimes after hours sometimes after couple of minutes. After every bluescreen the laptop get stucked in the bootscreen (the loading circle under the asus logo just freeze). Then I have to wait a couple of minutes before I can boot again. Sometimes it helps to reset the bios settings to default.

I tried to read the dumpfile with the debugger but with no success. I hope one of you can help me with.

What I already tried:
  • Windows 10 clean install (1903)
  • Windows 10 clean install (1903) on a new SSD
  • Removed the additional RAM (It came with 8gb ram attached to the mainboard. I added a 16gb)
  • I reflashed the newest BIOS version again
  • I downgraded BIOS to all other versions
  • I tried all driver from asus and other sources

I wouldn't downgrade the BIOS, again, if I were you. Often times people who come here have bricked their system when downgrading the BIOS. Mind sharing the make and model of your SSD? You forgot to include the model for your Asus laptop.

Did you use Windows Media Creation Tools to create your installer for Windows 10?

I wouldn't downgrade the BIOS, again, if I were you. Often times people who come here have bricked their system when downgrading the BIOS. Mind sharing the make and model of your SSD? You forgot to include the model for your Asus laptop.

Did you use Windows Media Creation Tools to create your installer for Windows 10?

Thats what the ASUS Support told me to do... but yeah they haven't been very helpful at all. Now I am currently on the BIOS Version i had before (308 - the forced update was 312). But nothing changed.

Ah sorry. Its an ASUS UX410UAK, Intel I5 7200, 8GB RAM onboard + additional 16gb

The new SSD is a Lexar NS100 512GB. But it makes no difference where i install Windows. Yes i used the Media Creation Tool.


its likely a driver, I have sent link to a friend who will convert dumps for us.

If its a newish Asus, there may be a utility on its website called My Asus. Try running it to make sure you have newest drivers

do you plug any extra devices into laptop?

Edit: The MyASUS App is useless... i just can do an Repair Reservation and I see FAQ.

did you ad the extra 16gb of ram as its a different speed to the 8gb stick

could be reason for BSOD

try updating chipset drivers - https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-ZenBook-UX410UA/HelpDesk_Download/ and maybe get latest BIOS again since you been going backwards.
BSOD mentions ACPI which might be fixed by updating the chipset drivers

Grab the update to Intel(R) Serial IO I2C driver that is under Other on Asus website, your version is from 2016 and newest is 2019
Newer version of touchpad drivers on Asus site as well.

Newer version of touchpad drivers on Asus site as well.

I thought they were the same speed... it was working well for 2 years.
I removed the 16gb stick and ran a Memtest on the other one without any issues.

BIOS, Chipset and the Touchpad driver are now updatet - but still no changes.

They both mention ACPI
The ACPI specification allows an operating system to communicate with, and to control the power distribution to peripherals such as hard drives. It was originally intended for laptops/notebooks where power saving is vital.
It was main reason I thought updating serial IO and chipset drivers would help.

Try updating ASUS Wireless Radio Control as its mentioned in driver list as ASUS ACPI\ATK4002 device driver

I always thought it has something to do with the ATK Package, because the functions-keys and some energysaving modes didn't worked aswell since the bios update. I have tried every ATK version i could find and none of them worked BUT...

I just saw that ASUS released a new ATK driver TODAY. I have installed it this morning.
Looks good until now - no bluescreen and the fn-keys are working again.
So fingerscrossed that was the issue - I have my doubts.

Unfortunately the new ATK Package doesn't work very well, too. The fn-keys and the energysaving mode are just working sometimes.

I did a clean Windows 10 install yesterday. But right after the installation the laptop stuck at the bootscreen. Afterwards I just installed driver from the asus page - no updates - no driver via windows. Still the same problem.
