Hi guys, I did some searching around and nothing seemed to answer my exact question. On 11/26 I will be getting a new ATT Uverse gateway (Internet Only) when I switch over from TWC. Currently my TWC internet is coming out from a Coax cable behind my entertainment center into a modem and then into my wireless router. ATT Uverse requires a phone jack which is unfortunately in my kitchen. Getting the phone jack moved is not an option as I'm renting an apartment so I need to try and find solution or cancel the service.

My question is the following:

Can I set up the RG in my kitchen and then have my router connect to the RG via wireless connection? If this is even possible, will it reduce possible upload/download speeds.

Thanks!

Depending on the new gateway (if modem/router model), you may be able to set it to bridge mode. If your wireless signal is good it should not hurt your connection speed although wireless reliability is a bit lower from 2.4GHz interference sources.

If your new modem is just a modem or combo that doesn't support bridge mode, you can use a pair of 200Mbps or higher powerline adapters to get the signal to your router. Any of the better ones should not slow your speed: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/powerline-charts/view

If you are just looking to get a few devices connected to the internet and maybe share files over the network, you can just make all your devices wireless and use the built in wireless function on the gateway and you don't even need your router. This won't be ideal if you plan to be sharing a ton of files or having say, LAN parties, but for most people it would work fine.
