At what point is integrated graphics better the discreet?

Solution
I think the answer is in the current market.

You have the GTX1050 and the RX460 as the lowest performing retail cards of this generation. Everything else is making its way into mobile. With the occasional OEM card making an appearance.

So they are basically giving up on the discrete low end. Intel has their Iris Pro graphics and the latest generation of that is probably close, but not quite a GTX750.

AMD hasn't released their new APUs, but when they do, they will probably beat the crap out of Intel again, both in CPU performance and iGPU performance, at least from a cost perspective.

I'm not sure if any fabs are still making kepler chips, but it is possible. Always seem to be plenty of GT700 models around. Not even seen any die...
+Carl Patrick I do not know the answer, but I've recently pondered the same question. The minimum GPU investment that I would consider is a used GTX 750 Ti for $50 off Ebay. I'm not a fan a new 1050 Ti, unless power supply is limited, because the RX 480 4 GB is only $30 more for approximately twice the performance.

Match the Intel 630 graphics in what? For general purpose computing you could match it with anything. For light gaming it might take a bit more to match it. For video hardware acceleration it might take more. For AAA gaming it might take a different level of card.

It makes more sense to ask "I have Intel 630 and I want better performance in (name of software), what is the lowest budget card that will get me better performance?"
