I am wanting to know if an Athlon MP 2400 + will work with an Asus A7S333 Motherboard, which is rated upto a XP 2600 +.

Will there be any downsides to this other than not having the MP cabibility, or will it run as good as a XP 2400 +

I order this from a company and it listed it as an XP/MP so I am not sure what to think on this, but it is backordered atm, so I may have time to stop the shipment.

Why would you want an Athlon MP on a single processor board? Athlon MPs are meant to be run in multiple processor configuration. There would be absolutely no benefit at all to running an MP on this board. As to whether an MP would actually work in a board not designed for MP, I see no reason why it should not, as it is esentially the same chip as the XP, with MP capability unlocked. However I was unable to find any definite answers to this on the web, so I cannot be absoutely certain.

it will definatly work...but i beleive the 2400 mp is palamino based...i would say you are better off with a athlon xp

So easy to fry yet tastes so good...

Actually, according to AMD's thermal and electrical specs, the A<b>MP</b> is also T-Bred based. Further the A<b>MP</b> uses only 36.4A of power and produces 60.0W of heat compared to the A<b>XP</b>'s use of 41.4A and 68.3W.

So A<b>MP</b> is 5A less power and 8.3 less W.

Not bad. :)

I could be wrong on this part, but I also seem to remember that the A<b>MP</b>s come factory unlocked. Now this doesn't matter too much with mobos that can unlock an A<b>XP</b>, but for older mobos it could be useful. But again, that might not be right. My memory isn't what it used to ... aw, hell, my memory was <i>never</i> very good. Heh heh. 😉

i never looked much into mps but newegg says most of their low end mps used the palamino core...so i was just going by that...also no high end mps use the 333mhz bus...so it is really not worth it...they are more expensive too.

Look at the price. If it's a $h!tload more expensive than XP2400+ chips from other sites, then it's an MP. I'd seriously say get an XP instead, it'll be way cheaper.

$hit Happens. I just wish it would happen to someone else for a change.

But an A<b>XP</b>2400 doesn't use a 333MHz bus either. It's still 266MHz too.

So they have the <i>exact</i> same performance but the A<b>MP</b> 2400 runs more efficiently (and overclocks better).

Really it just comes down to price.

damn... you beat me to it there....

I would be suprised if any Pally chip would be happy @2400 speeds... if I remember correctly it was damn near impossible to get more than 1.8Ghz or so out of them, and then they'd produce enough heat to start a fusion reaction..

true...for some reason i was thinking he was upgrading to a 2600...from the prices i have seen you can buy a 2600 for the price of a 2400mp...but if you wana get it then that is your choice...
