hi, ive recently bought an ati radeon hd 4670 1gb gddr2.. and i use it first in a computer with the following specs:

Intel core 2 duo 2.7ghz
mother asus (dont know the model)
2gb ddr2
256 gb hard disk
windows 7 ultimate 32 bit

and the performance of the card was great!

but then i change the graphic card to another computer (my computer in fact) and the performance decreased a lot

my computer has the following specs:

amd athlon II x4 2.6ghz
mother asrock n68-s
4gb ddr2
320 gb hard disk plus 1 tb hard disk
windows 7 ultimate x64

any answer to why the graphic card performance decreased in a better (for me) computer?

thanks in advance.

Flavio

ps: sorry for my english im from argentina.

oh, i think i ve discovered something... with the first pc i installed the drivers that came with the card... and for the second i installed the latest drivers.... could that be the trouble?

That should be the contrary since AMD's latest drivers 11.12 offers a big performance boost. I tested my card with 11.8 and 11.12, and with a tiny graphic benchmark, the fps went from 679 to 895...

hi thanks i'll download it!... its really weird, performance should be better i know that... but i dont know why is this happening

yes that could be truth, but i think the difference shouldnt be that much... in the first computer games that run in 60fps on the second they run in 52fps and it affects a lot the gameplay

hi ther i made the tests and the results are

opengl illuminated torus 252-206fps
gl triangle of death 530-500fps
gl furry cube avg 11fps
gl hdr avg 18fps
gl hw geometry instancing avg 17fps
gl soft shadows avg 87fps
gl point sprite avg 145fps
gl vertex avg 36fps
gl cell shading avg 323fps
gl simple mesh avg 288fps

opencl gpu 4d quaternion 34-23fps
cl gpu 1m particles 13-11fps
cl gpu mesh deformer 48fps
cl gpu post fx 3fps

it surprise me how bad the opencl makes in performance... in the 2nd test in opencl, the cpu performs a lot better than gpu !!??... thats annoying for me

For random particles computing, the CPU is better by using advanced algorithms, so you shouldn't worry about it.

Also, you have to do all tests on both computers to compare the performance between them...

i will do the test in the other computer this friday since its in my girlfriend's house, i only have one gpu... ive installed the latest opencl drivers from amd's web page.

It still perplexes me that your 4670 is so underpowered compared to an 6670...

My Benchmarks

GL Tesselation - 3568 FPS
GL Illuminated Torus - 242 FPS
GL Triangle of Death - 4387 FPS
GL Furry Cube - 66 FPS
GL HDR - 54 FPS
GL HW Geometry Instancing - 46 FPS
GL Soft Shadows - 357 FPS
GL Point Sprite - 229 FPS
GL Vertex - 485 FPS
GL Cell Shading - 702 FPS
GL Simple Mesh - 569 FPS

CL GPU 4D Quaternion - 91 FPS
CL GPU 1M Particles - 37 FPS
CL GPU Mesh Deformer - 124 FPS
CL GPU Post FX - 21 FPS

Your card is underperforming... 😱

you see? thats weird... since the clock on my card is 600Mhz!! any suggestions? i will do the tests on the other computer and will compare it to your results... i answer again any suggestions? please!! haha

Idk, I will try to figure this out more "in depth" tomorrow, but just for now, are you sure that in your power options, it is set to "High Performance"?

Even if it is not an laptop, you can get less performance in Power Saver or Balanced than in High Performance.

thank you very much bloc97, i really appreciate your help!... i will check that... i was also thinking this could be about a power issue, but im not 100 percent sure!...

bloc97 i have another question... what windows size were you using when you did the tests?

First PC is using 32 bit , Second PC using 64 bit ..are you sure you have all the correct 64 bit drivers ? .. also , please find out the EXACT Models of the Motherboards (as well as BIOS versions) ..I am starting to wonder if perhaps 1 of the MB is an older PCIx1 slot and maybe the other is a PCIx16 ..could be a problem there
Also you make no mention of the PSU used in either PC , maybe the newer dont have enough juice for GPU ? just some things to consider

yes it has ddr2 but it was not that... i test the board with gpu-z, and compare the results with some guy online with the exact same graphic card and my results were all bad, now i know i have a bad card and have to change it while it is on warranty.

the real results for the 4670 are this:

gpu clock: 750Mhz
Bus width: 128bit

and my results showed this:
gpu clock: 600Mhz
bus width: 64bit!!!!!

and with 3dmark06, all the results showed just the half of what they should be
