Ati 5770 or nvidia gtx 260 for video editing/trans-coding and occasional gaming

Hi,
I need advice on getting a video card for my first build to do photoshop, video editing/trans-coding and occasional gaming. I couldn't decide if I should get the GTX 260 or the ATI 5770 card. Also, is ATI 5850 overkill for my purpose?

5770 - its cheaper, performs around the same, has less load power consumption, less idle consumption and has dx11

Except for gaming, none of the tasts listed use the Video card. Get something good enough to handle what gaming you do, put the money saved into a faster CPU and more ram.

I read that nvidia is better for video/photo editing and thus has been considering GTX 260 or GTX 275 instead of HD 5770 or HD 5850.

The biggest two knocks I see are the V8 and the ram. The V8 is pretty expensive for what you get. There are as good/better coolers out there for less. I'm also not sure I'd jump to 12GBs right now. Try a single set, get more later if you need it.

For video/photo editing it mostly doesn't matter what GPU you have. If you have an Nvidia card you can use it to do the editing, but you need the special software and I'm not convinced its better then the CPU options out there.
