AMD know about this issue, this is what they said.
Thank you for contacting AMD
I understand that you are unable to get dual Radeon HD 7770 video cards to work with Catalyst 13.1. If I have missed any critical information please let me know as my suggestions may change.
With the tests you have done it is clear that it is a driver bug with Cross Fire X on Catalyst 13.1. We have also gotten some reports of the issue and have escalated for investigation. To help out with the investigation could you please create a bug report with us so it gets send to the Catalyst Engineers?
You can create a report at
www.amd.com/report
For now the temporary solution is to stay on Catalyst 12.10.
Please be aware that if we do not hear back from you, we will assume that the issue has been resolved and the service request will be permanently closed after 10 days. If more time is needed to evaluate my suggestion please let me know and I will ensure this service request remains open for you.
In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.
Best regards,
AMD Global Customer Care
How do I respond I need to tell this guy more? i know were to send the bug report but not know how to respond to this email, do I just reply via email, the email is not a noreply@such and such.
I have a ATI 2400 Pro
Dell XPS 420 w/8gb RAM
Initial install was 64-bit WinVista
Inplace upgrade (yes I know horrible to do but was lazy) to Win7 64-bit
Worked well no problems except for missing DVD codecs. Two weeks ago BSOD. Installed secondary HD and installed fresh OS. Mostly working then BSOD. Installed the Beta CCM trashed my entire system. All of my data is intact (yippy!). However even an attempt to install an OS and BSOD. Tried to install a fresh copy of WinVista 64 bit but it BSOD on that as well. I think at this point my card is trashed will have to buy another.
This is really unacceptable to deploy buggy software that trashes a system and the BETA! trashes the video card. For some people this would mean a new PC. Very lame.
How do you expect to have great performance or compatibility with newer drivers, if your too lazy to do a proper reformat and fresh install of Windows?
Google the advantages of doing a fresh install of Windows, yes it does matter.
You should not do an upgrade and just settle with that.
You definitely need to read up on Windows maintenance and procedures for hardware and software.
Get rid of Vista, that should not be used.
Here is a quick checklist:
1. Get a copy of Windows 7 Pro from various places and burn to disc or usb
2. Download drivers for your existing hardware, save them to an external device
3. Boot to Windows Install medium
4. Reformat Hard Drive
5. Install OS
6. Install Drivers
7. Install Antivirus/Security App
8. Check for Windows Updates via Control Panel
9. Install 3rd Party Browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE10)
DVD Codecs?
Who worries about those when you have choices of either VLC (videolan.org) or MPC-HC (mpc-hc.org)
If drivers are able to trash your system, you need to deploy a backup system. One product I use is Backblaze (backblaze.com).
$5 a month for total protection for ALL your data, yes even your external drives!
CrashPlan (crashplan.com) is another company to check out.
Good Luck and try to use the above information/tools.
