Hello, I have a question concerning the ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 128, and the ASUS P4P800 motherboard.

I'm currently looking into getting barebone computer that includes the ASUS P4P800 865PE, and I already have the Radeon 9500 Pro 128 video card... now my question is this.

I have been told that there are problems with the 865 and 875 series and the older ATI video cards that include the 9500 and 9700 models.. something to do with the ATI voltage regulator, that for unexplainable reasons the voltage on the AGP port drops randomly... causing lockups or or random rebooting. Now, the vid card that i have is an OEM, or Saphire Radeon 9500 Pro 128 - which i'm sure is of worse quality.

I have seen the reviews on this site that use the ATI Radeon 9500 and the P4P800 motherboard without any mention of possible problems... does that mean it doesnt happen or is fixed with the latest bios/driver updates? Also I intend to use Windows 2000 Pro.

Anyone aware of this issue?

Thanks.

found a problem with memory in those chipsets...not with the vid cards...find the memory problem here. There's a little blurb here about some problems with that chipset as well. That's about all that is out on the web right now. It would be a good idea to go to the manufacturer's website and find out if there are any known issues on it.

Never heard of a 9500 problem, but the early 9700 cards did have problems with several chipsets, and could sometimes be fixed by setting AGP mode to 4x.

thanks for the replies, actually the person that told me of this 'issue' was the place i plan on getting my new system from... however i have gotten quotes from a number of computer stores and none of them mentioned of any such issue.

perhaps he wanted to pressure me into getting a new video card aswell, but after spending some $1000CDN with no room for a new vid card... and with my Radeon 9500 causing random freezing or rebooting would be quite a problem and headache as im sure you can imagine.
