Audigy or ?

I am about to build a computer with home office and home audio studio/ music creation in mind. I am entering the world of Drum n' Bass and Trance. I want a solid entry point for music creation/ reproduction and I am getting real hesitant on the AudigyEX card from everyone's feedback. Does anyone have any suggestions. The system will have 1.4 or higher processor and massive drives (perhaps in hotswaps). I don't want to piss money away on a card that's going to crash or create system faults. Again, this is a starting point for what I hope to be a much more expensive and elaborate future.
What I need is advice on a comprehensive set-up at a reasonable price and performance profile.

My SBLive worked fine until I put it into a multi-processor machine, and then the 3D sound didn't work. So, yesterday I bought an Audigy (game version because it was the cheapest). No problems. Works great.

I can't think of anything else to say except that mine does everything it is supposed to - If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them.

What motherboard are you going to have? That makes a difference.

I haven't made a decision but I intend to go first rate not cheapest

Are you doing music creation using midi and sampling or just playing back games and sound files?

What chipset are you looking at? That's probably what I should've asked.

I just setup a home studio and I really like the Hercules Game Theater XP. For recording I don't think you are going to be able to come close to it in convience or quality for less than $100. I stayed away from the Audigy because I have a Via chipset and have no regrets.
