Every time i start a certain application (only some applications) or game (only some games) my sound cuts out. My headphones make an unusual clicking sound every few seconds and i cannot hear anything else. If i have something like teamspeak open it mutes my mic and i have to restart teamspeak. It is very annoying as i could have something like spotify open and the sound just stops playing. What can i do to fix this?

Apologies: did not intend to confuse you more.

However troubleshooting can be difficult even in the best of situations.

The work must be done in some methodical organized manner with the goal of directly identifying the problem or finding it by elimination.

As for Event Viewer, this link within this forum will help you:

See if you can find some error or errors that always seem to occur just before or at the time of the audio cut outs.
Right click the small speaker icon (most likely lower right screen corner) and check both Playback devices and Recording devices.

Find your devices and then drill down through the various tabs and the settings within. There are quite a few options and you may find that some configuration setting is wrong or either on or off (enabled/disabled) the opposite of what it should be. Or what you need for your applications and games to work without issues.

Look first, see what each configuration setting is supposed to or expected to do. Change only one thing at a time. Keep notes in case you need to reverse some change you made.

No i can't get it to work that way, and i am looking for a permanent fix as this is very annoying and has even stopped me from playing some of my favourite games like arma 3 because when i start that i can't get any sound at all. Normally restarting every application on my pc fixes it but it is becoming very annoying.

If tweaking the audio settings is not working then the next step is to narrow things down as much as possible.

First identify which "some applications"and what "some games" actually are and, more importantly determine if there is a specific combination of games and applications or start up order even that causes the problem to occur. Some conflict in the use of resources or services perhaps.

And do not forgot that some peripheral may be involved - a joystick or other controller device.

The Event Viewer logs might provide more clues. Open the logs and look for warnings and error codes. Processes or services that shut off or start even - especially if audio/sound card related.

If you have not looked at the Event Viewer logs before you will probably find it all somewhat confusing. That is okay - just explore until you get a sense of what events and where those events are recorded. Right- clicking an event log entry will provide even more detail.

That has confused me more, i have contacted Microsoft support but they are not educated, 1 person tried to make me create a new profile, i did and it had no effect.
