Question Audio Issues - Windows 11 Computer - Mic picks up desktop audio

I’ve been having the same audio issue since last December. I’ve tried to fix it several times, but I’m not exactly what you would call “smart.” Anyway, the issue is that my microphone keeps picking up desktop audio, and there’s a constant buzzing whenever I try to record. I bought a new mic, but the issue still persisted. It might be the XLR cable since I didn’t change that when I got the new mic. I updated and disabled several drivers, but there was no change. I disabled all enhancements in the sound manager and tried several other things. It’s been a perpetual loop of me trying and giving up every few weeks/months. The closest I’ve come to "fixing" the problem is by messing with my gain to the point that I have to yell for the mic to hear me, but hey, at least it isn't picking up my game or background YouTube video (sometimes). I did Google and even tried ChatGPT several times; it didn’t really help.

If you know how to fix this or have any suggestions, please help me out. I’ve been tearing myself apart for so long because of this issue.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Type Control Panel in Start>Hardware and Sound>Sound>Recording tab>Select your default recording device>Properties>Listen tab, see if the option to listen to this device is enabled. If so, uncheck it and see if that helps.

Now would be a good time to mention your audio equipment and how it's tethered to your system.

the "listen to device" option is disabled. I am on windows 11, I have a 3.5mm jack, and I am using a AT2020 Condenser mic w/ its required phantom power.

feel free to ask specifics if it is needed.
