Hi all,
I ain't been on in a bit but I'm back. New problem. Most likely a reg
fix but I hope someone can help me.

When Windows boots up, usually you get a startup sound to play. Now, when I
boot up it no longer plays any sounds. if I test the sound in the sound
options (in ctrl-panel) the playback works fine. I tried different sounds
and none of them perform on boot up.

Anyone know a fix or suggestion?

Dunno if I gave enough info on my post but feel free to ask if more info is
necessary.

I am having the same problem, I believe, and haven't found a fix yet. I
reformatted my hard drive a while back, and have had no sound since then. I
have now removed my old sound card & replaced it with a new one, still no
sound. Moved the card to new slot, etc. The system recognizes the card, and
device mgr. says it is working properly, with no conflicts.

I've uninstalled drivers, codecs, reinstalled, etc. etc. Still no sound.
All I get is a beep.

The Sound & Multimedia doesn't see anything there, so I don't have a volume
control on my bottom bar, and it is greyed out, so I can't even put it there.
All the media source menus are greyed out as well, it is not recognizing any
cd or dvd or anything else.

IS ANYONE GOING TO ANSWER ME? Does anyone have a solution other than
reinstalling Windows?

If you have on-board sound, it's a glitch in windows 2000. I have 3
machines with 2k. The sound works fine on all three but only one has
the start up sound. the drivers load but other software that loads
(anti-virus software, burning software, etc) at startup prevent you
from hearing the sound.

There is nothing wrong with you computer.

I had this trouble in one of my machines with XP on it. If I went to Sounds
in the Control Panel and played the Winodws Logon it played fine. But it
was having trouble at Start up. I don't get a beep what I got is one note
from the jingle.

But let me point out this is not an issue with the sound card or the
operating system. This is an issue of resources not available at Logon to
play the jingle. There is really nothing you can do about it. Just let it
be over time and I suspect one day it will work right. Mine did but note I
never screwed with it or tried to fix it. I knew all was as it should be
and decided to let the system determine when it would be a good time to
start behaving. It took about 6 weeks.

Codecs can have a deleterious effect. Especially these Codec packages like
Nimo and others.
