Authentication code question

I need to reinstall Vista (due to clutter) and I accidentally threw my activation code away. I assumed it was in the manual, but it turns out they put it on a sticker on the top of the computer (which I took off right when I got it home 2 years ago).

I haven't actually erased my hard drive yet; so I was wondering if the activation code it stored somewhere on my computer. Does anyone know?

Also, if it isn't on my computer is there any way to get it back? I still have the original CD and manual, so I can prove that it's legit.
