How do I disable "auto dial-up screen" which is popping up every minute or two, even if I want to use the XP without connecting to the net???? I tried the settings on my dial-up connection but couldn't really see anything to fix this.
I'm using XP Pro with a dial-up connection to 2 ISPs.
Thanking you all.

if you keep getting the connection screen, then something is trying to access the net, could be a few things, morpheus, icq, msn, AV update, allsorts, find what that is, then disable it

Try making none of your dial ups default.
To be more precise:
Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab
Choose "Never Dial A Connection" for both accounts.

Then, you can do what CALV suggested by disabling things that update and check themselves automatically. (i.e. Windows, NAV, etc.)

if you set it to "never dial a connection" then even when you WANT to go online, it wont give you a connection box, so you wont get online, unless you want to change this evertyime.

I'm aware of that. But, there's always services requesting to get online somehow. Even if you disable AV liveupdates and stuff, something will still try. If you try it this way, then you don't have to worry about an app trying to do so. Lastly, if you want to go online, then just double click the connect icon to get online.

In my situation, with DSL, I just have a shortcut on the desktop. Whenever I want to get online, I just double click it before doing anything, with my suggestion above implemented.

there is anti-spy, which disables services that run in the background...

when i open a command prompt, and type "netstat -n" there is nothing running, unless i open a web browser, or do somehting else on the internet.
i did this because i have dsl, and didnt want to have to babysit my computer, because there are open ports...

and that is to the normal page.
check it out, i think that it should disable the services that are normally running in windows xp.
also, here is a site that you can check out, has a lot of tweaking programs, and guides for windows xp...

might not pertain to the dial up issue, but will help btvillarin, with the constant on internet.

Have u solve the dial-up thing? what i did was to disable one of the WinXP Services. It is called "Remote Access Auto Connection Manager". Try disabling it and set to manual. It works for me.
