av61 & HDD size

I have an old pc with these characteristics:
MB av61 - BIOS av61s214
Ram 256 Mb
HD Samsung 8,4 Gb
NVIDIA 32 Mb

I have acquired a new HDD maxtor of 40 Gb... but the bios don't see
the new hdd, i have read the support material at the maxtor and
shuttle sites but have not obtained one solution to the problem...

every solutions is appreciated...

Can only assume your bios is out of date. I had a similar prob when
sticking a new HDD is my sisters comp, a quick update of the bios got it
to see a 120Gb drive where before she only had a 1Gb HDD.
