ok sorry bout that dbl post... i actually change graphics to Nvidia Quadro fx 5800 4gb 512 bit 240 CUDA processes. 3 of them
 
whats it for? Quadro's suck for gaming.

The only workstation gfx card that doesn't suck for gaming is the Tesla S1070/1075.

If this is for a workstation then swap those Quadro's for one of the Tesla's shown above and make sure you have an AMD Socket F board with 4 Quad's or a dual socket 1366 board and two xeon 5500's. Along with 64gb of ram.
 
Yeah Its basically for doing anything, I'm going to need it for some cuda based apps but I would think with this kind of power it could tear through games... But yeah photoshop and other of adobe suite... My list seems to be broke. But basically it was skulltrail mb 2 LGA 771 extremes 64 gb of ram ddr2(sadly) and I think three gtx 285s, plus raid 5 with more than 4 Tb of hard disk space..
 
oh I see but I said bassically what I have in it so yeah. I mean gtx 285s or quadro fx5800s? They have 4gb or ram each play240 cuda process cores
 
GTX 285's are great for gaming, bad at workstation/productivity work. Quadro's are good at workstation/productivity, bad at gaming. Whichever fits your needs better is what you should go for. It is also possible to softmod a gaming GPU to be better optimized for workstation drivers, which would give you good workstation performance for a fraction of the price of one of those horribly expensive quadro's.
 
yeah I'll probably go with the gtx 285s, and should I go with this set up or a dual socket. 1336? Cause the core i7 is one I the faster CPUs out now I can only imagine how it will do
 
CUDA will wipe the floor with any i7... on code that runs on CUDA and is optimized for it.

However, that only includes maybe 5 programs. For most purposes, let the CPU do the processing and the GPU do the pretty pictures.

You sound extremely vague on what you want to do with this wunderpc... I hate to sound patronizing, but you sound like a 12 year old with an active fantasy life, or who has snagged their parent's Visa card.

The first question before designing anything is; What is it for ?

If the answer is too vague or is too wide... you may be better off splitting the build into seperate chunks... for example, getting a netbook for browsing the web and building a regular desktop with a decent graphics card for playing games on may be better than trying to get a laptop for playing Crysis.
 
haha I just was bored and tried to make the grandest computer I could, I don't know what anyone would use it for but it would be around $14,000, haha I thought it would be cool to post this just to see how to perfect it, it's crazy I know Mac pro has like same stuff and is twice the price at 21k
 



ROFL, so that's why I was seeing a Phenom II 940 there, it was MY OWN shopping cart. I'm so embarrassed :sweat:
 
well yeah like $1200 to $1300. i know with the market down parts are dropping prices like crazy. so i wont build until summer time, but i would want something that will last, is why i want core i7. i know i could make a really good quality Core 2 quad or even Phenom for a reasonable price but i dont want it to be supe outdated in 2 years. even though i know computers are basically outdated when released i want something to last for a little longer than previous tech so i know the i7 would be more that im looking for
 


Dude, if I do say so myself go for the i7 with a gtx285. I built mine last weekend and it melts faces.

Not a bad build at all. It would have been even better with an 850TX (to allow for SLI), but still very impressive. :)

If the OP wants to build this in the summer, he might even be able to get a 40nm graphics card.
