Back panel surround sound not working?

Motherboard is msi 970a-g43.

When I plug my headphones in the front panel there's surround sound, but when I plug in the back, there's none. I have Realtek audio I guess. The only reason I don't like plugging in the front is because if I move a bit the audio disconnects for some reason

make sure you have the newest drivers from realtelk. in the control panel for the sound is how the front and rear audio is set up. if there a check box on one of the boxes both audio ports are one port and the control software turns the other non used ports off. if you uncheck that box both audio ports will be turned on at the same time.

The sound in the back works, just no surround

how many colored ports are on the rear?? if there three there online speaker/headphone/line in/out. if there six then there should be set up in the control panel for more then 2.1 audio if it not there look under sound device propertiers and see if there a 2.1 and 5.1 sound settings.

Actually there are 6 in the back and its 7.1?

Yeah I think the issue is that there are like 3 slots in the rear panel. One for side L/R one for back L/R and one for front L/R. The problem is that I need then all to be one slot together

Is it really impossible? When I connected to the front of the desktops jack, and did a surround sound test, all the the channels works, when I used the rear jack, only the left and right one worked. Or am I just stupid because earbuds don't have surround no matter what?

True surround headphones exists, but they need full surround signal (Front L+R, Rear L+R, Center, Subwoofer), so they use either three stereo jacks, either a digital connection (SP/DIF, USB).

In your case, the software mixes the Rear/Center/SW channels with the front channels and outputs the mixed signal to the front panel (Virtual Surround).

No, it wouldn't; just use the stereo setting from the panel, that will allow the audio tracks to be played as originally intended.
