[citation]the ONLY point of a console is that they are massed produced in single configuration so they can be produced cheaply (cheaper than a PC).[/citation]

Single config makes debugging an order of magnitude easier. You never have to tell a 360 user to install a codec pack or VC++ redistributable.

The Xbox360 is going on 5 years-old already. I would hope they are already developing a new console. If they are smart, they would start making the consoles modular so that the GPU and memory can be upgraded, in addition to the hard drive. That would help extend the product lifecycle.

Well.. I think it's pretty pointless to change it too much. Save the big changes for the next Xbox. Blu-Ray would be nice but an integrated player would mess up EVERY existing Xbox game because the loading times are so slow.

1. Quiet slot loading DVD drive.
2. Integrated Natal
3. Mouse Support for Games
4. Integrated Wireless
5. Bigger HD
6. 50% reduction in ALL downloadable content

I can see how this would be advantageous... but at the same time it takes the 'Easy' factor of popping in a disc and knowing that it will work. Upgradable HD already exists. Memory probably isn't that important if they put enough in to begin with. GPU would seriously complicate things. Although consoles are becoming more and more like living room computers. Perhaps the average gamer is finally savy enough to handle this type of change, but I doubt it.

Anybody remember the pictures here at Toms of a company that put the guts of a 360 into a computer case with a computer inside it? I can't even remember what show it was at... Anyway, the 360 guys seemed to love it, so maybe it will be something like that.

ehanger might have been joking. There was a guy a few weeks ago that said pretty much the same thing and was roasted mercilessly for it. It was pretty funny at the time.

Just make it portable, 64GB, OLED touch screen, wi-fi, 3g, 5m cmos, USB 3.0, and at least 5 hours battery life.

I think the saddest part is that microsoft said the 360 is only half way through it's full lifecycle. I don't know how much I would want to be playing DX9 games in a couple of years when DX13 or 14 is running on the computer. Along with the whole Natal crap that the 360 is adding, changing the looks of the 360 just aren't going to be enough.

So a circle in your world is 720 degrees, cause doing a 360 you end up facing the same direction :p

A TV Tuner and software to record, rewind and pause live TV. Basically add the ability to use it as a DVR/TiVo system! That would be AWESOME!
Blu-Ray
Integrated wireless (at least G)
The ability to load/install Windows 7

Upgradeable cpu/graphics option? PC
Multiple displays? PC
Keyboard and mouse? PC
360 controller? Direct from Microsoft FOR THE PC... wirelessly
Integrated wireless? PC (laptop)
SSD options? PC

Consoles have always been one thing: A snapshot of PC technology. They take what PCs can do at the time and put it in a box and produce it for 5 years. Rinse and repeat.

How about for the next generation, we just build one standard machine at a 399 or under price point. Thats for Sony, Microsoft.

to hell with blue ray and dvd, i want an xbox where by i dont need a media drive, with the uptake of broadband and everything MS can easily create something like a bit torrent network where users dl games directly to an eSata drive, distribution can be modular (i.e. your xbox will download only the relevant levels that your imminently going to tackle (if your on level 2 then it will download level 3, 4 and 5 in advance, i realize there are some hardcore gamers out there that may ace games in a 48 hour sitting but im talking about me and i rarely spend more then 2 hours a day in front of my games console)

this would allow the console to be much smaller quieter and reduce the hardware error count, i should be able to easily unplug my eSata drive go over the my friends and plug it into his xbox and give him a copy to play with based upon the current level im on, it's like an instant demo feature, if he likes it he would buy the game

i really hate having stacks of dvd/dvd cases lying around doing close to nothing 90% the time, but then maybe thats just me

Heck with Blue Ray and DVD drives, what with the widespread broadband access shouldn’t be too hard for MS to make something like a bit torrent network whereby users can modularly dl the games they want to a portable eSata drive, throw in some intelligence whereby your xbox would passively dl imminent content for you (ie if I was on level 1 my xbox would dl levels 2, 3 and 4 ahead of time for me, I realize there are some hardcore gamers out there who can finish a game in one 48 hour sitting, that’s not me, I barely get 2 hours worth of gaming a day)

I should be able to take my eSata drive to my friend place and share a copy of my game’s current level with him, if he likes it he will buy the game (just pay and get to dl the other levels)

This should allow for the xbox to be smaller, quieter and less prone to hardware failure, in fact all the interactive functions for the xbox can be placed upon the eSata drive then you can just tuck away the xbox out of sight somewhere

I have too many DVD/DVD cases littering my place doing nothing 90% the time, I just don’t see the need for them…. But maybe that’s just me

The third is far beyond impossible, remember that a console is a low end PC. The console can barely output decent FPS at 720p as it is. So 3x 1080p...

The only way you are on your 1st xbox is:

Your on the ORIGINAL (1st) xbox or,

you just bought your first 360 last week..

.. you never turn it on.
