Barton 2800 and 400FSB

Due to the huge diffence in price between the 3000 400fsb and 2800 333fsb, I was wanting to get the 2800 and OC its fsb to 400. Im plaining to use the ASUS a7n8x deluxe rev2 MB, which supports 400FSB with bois rev, and GEIL PC3200 dual channel kit in conjunction. Has anyone tried OCing the 2800 chip to 400fsb successfully? if so, please tell me wich cooler you used and wat voltage setting to the CPU. Thanks in advance..

It is extremely possible...however the cpu is not the limiting factor on the fsb...the board is...that being said most people who own baron 2500's can get their fsbs to 220mhz (440 mhz ddr) on a good board. If ya want my opinion get the 2500 it will at least overclock to 2.1ghz.

Id figured that the barton 2500 chip is cheaper than the 2800, Im just trying to get the chip's FSB in accrodance to the GEIL's ram max FSB level to get the most out of it. Like I said earlier the a7n8x deluxe rev 2 with the latest bois update supports 400FSB just not certain if that would include oced to 400fsb. Im just saying this cause Im plaing on using dual channel mode and that mode is a bitch.

Ditto on the barton 2500 , save the money , I'm running
11x200 @2205 mhz on A7N8X 2.0 , its been that way since day 1 , prime95 load temp 44-45c using slk800 W/smart fan II , lowest speed

That sounds like a sweet deal randy. Is that config running on defualt voltage or did you crank it up to 1.75 or 1.85? At first I was considering the Barton 2500 mainly because I knew it can be oced since its just an unclocked 3000, but was little concerned with the combo of dual channel and OC FSB. I'll go ahead and get the barton 2500 and give it a whirl under dual channel. One thing I did not consider yet is there is specific vintage of barton 2500 that has this supreme OC capability or just any of this chip would do it?

You'll be able to get to those levels on stock Voltage without much trouble (if any.) To give an example my TB 1700+ (1.43Ghz stock) is currently running at 2.25Ghz(195x11.5), 1.55 VCore. Barton chip is basically the same core, but has more L2 cache, and is rated higher so probly will go higher. There's ppl on these boards who've got up to 2.5Ghz out of a Barton 2500+.

it should make no diffrence if you overclock the fsb to 200 mhz or if you buy a 200mhz cpu...the mobo will be able to run dual channel...there is no more or less stress put on the mobo from a barton oced to 200mhz or one that defaults @ 200mhz.

Am I missing something here - can't find a barton 2500+ w/400FSB.
Newegg has 333 FSB. Is there a newer 2500+Barton out?

Those TB 1700 are a prodigy. I got mine tb 1700 running almost 3ghz (195 x 15) with 1.85 voltage. It just has a big cooler with a noisy tornado fan on it. However it does crash after 2 hours but I just reboot to fix that. If I could crank the voltage more it would fix the crash issue but the MB wont let me. Id bet the 2500 is the same as any of ther other 166fsb bartons just the muliplier dropped so it would be a matter of putting it back to 3000 ;-)

There isn't one - we're talking about oc'ing a 2500+ FSB to 200Mhz.
