Hello Everyone,

I am just after some detailed but basic set of instructions on how to best remove old thermal paste of the processor and heatsink. Furthermore, I would like to know what the best methods are for applying Arctic Silver 5 and installing a Gigabyte VOLAR. Any additional tips and hints are also very welcome.

Thank you very much for you help.

Kind Regards
ZeGerman

Use qtips and alcohol. The kind you keep in the medicine cabinet. Thats pretty much it. Use a papertowel corner for the last bit.

There is special stuff called Artic Clean, but not really needed to just clean a HS and processor off.

How to apply the AS5 kinda depends on your processor. But a easy way that is just fine is put a small blob about the size between a grain of rice and a pea in the middle of the CPU, and put the heatsink on it and push down. Then carefully install the mounting hardware to clamp down the HS on the CPU. Thats pretty much it.

Biggest mistake I see is too much paste. Too much actually creates a insulating layer. There are tons of Youtube vids and instructions on websites. Did you go to the AS5 website and possibly read?
