Yeah it does, doesn't it? I hope it performs at least half as well as it looks 😀.

I don't even want to OC my card. I just bought the eVGA 8800GT 512MB 600Mhz a few weeks ago and it runs around 70C during NWN2. I knew it was going to run hot but damn. I should have taken the advice of multiple posters and gotten the new 8800GTS 512MB.

Yeah, I'm always suggesting to get the 8800GTS 512MB over the 8800GT.

I just ran 3Dmark06 at 730/1000 with 2 8800GT's and an E8400 @ 3.6GHZ. It BSOD! I dont know why. I didnt have time to mess around. Anyone else having BSOD problems during an overclocking benchmark?

I may remove and reinstall Ntune/control panel and all nvidia drivers and then reinstall.

What are people using to overclock cards? Does the program you use allow for fan control like Ntune?

My last successful overclock was 700/950 and I scored around 16800 in 3Dmark06. I would like to break 18k sometime with a more stable overclock of the cpu and gpu's.

I use Rivatuner, which allows fan control. If you know how, you can even set fan profiles in which it automatically sets the fan speed at certain temperature.

I have never had a BSOD due to OCing the vidcard. You might want to grab ATI tools and check your stability.

What are ATI tools? I was just thinking about flashing bios, reinstalling some programs like nvidia control panel, ntune and crysis (didnt instal correctly... dont think it has anything to do with it but want to for peace of mind)

Would Prime95 be able to tell me if I am stable? Also I tried to download memtest but it says I cant because it's not compatible with 64 bit OS or something like that. In bios I have this nvidia memory thing... I forget what it's called... can I use that for memory testing?

ATI tools is a vidcard OCing tool. I like to use the "scan for artifacts" feature so I know if the vidcard will register artifacts or not. Also, viewing the 3dwindow can let you know your load temps. For more info, look at the video card OCing guide here.

You don't need to flash any bios, just use ATI tools and Rivatuner.

I'm pretty sure the BSOD was due to NTUNE. Well I know it was. When I try to open nview monitor it BSODs without doing anything else. They really ought to release a new NTune.

I kinda didn't like Rivatuner. I couldn't control my fan speeds like I could with NTUNE. Anyhow I tried it and it worked fine. I also kept ntune and ran another test run at 715/950 and it finished 3dmark06 fine.

What are some getting as far as overclocks on a stock cooler? I tried 730/1000 and it just doesnt work like it does for some. I will try to bump it up to 720/995 next. I am only doing the overclocks for benchmarks. I could care less for games.

There's a guide here on the top. Read that, you will be able to get your max OC.

I read the guide and understanding it well. I am having a few issues with Rivatuner:

1. When I installed it there was a message saying that the version of Rivatuner was not the latest version for the drivers that I was using. I am using latest version of Geforce driver 169.25 and the Rivatuner version is: 2.06v

2. When I increase the fan speed it doesnt seem that the speed is even nearly as high (because of noise) as it would be with nvidia control panel. I think it's only increasing the speed of one of the 8800GT's that I have. How can I make it so that it will increase both gpu fans?

Those are the only reasons I am not liking Rivatuner.

Also has anyone been experiencing BSOD with nvidia control panel? I BSOD right when I enter the control panel. It's annoying as I would like to overclock with that (just because it's easy) but will have to learn Rivatuner now.

I am running Vista home premium 64 bit... I think it's a possibility that it could be the issue. I will continue to try. I wish software would have less bugS!

Up the fan speed, anything past 45% for me was too much noise wise. So I slapped a AC accelero S2 on it w/turbo modules.

How do you like the AC accelero bildo? What temps do it keep the gpu at? How much did you pay and where? Is it loud?

What else are some using for aftermarket coolers. I need to get one of these desperately. I can barley pass at 730/1000 once in 3dmark06.

Sorry for the delayed response

1) Love it, works very good for the price, also this is with the turbo module fans AC sells
2) Normally during heavy gaming It'll go around 47C, the hottest I have seen it get was 53C after 15 minutes of ATI's artifact scan. It Idle's at 38~40C depending on my ambient which can range from 20C~23C
3)How much? This is the best part, the heatsink it was $17 and the turbo module was only $8. Just add shipping and there you go. This is from NewEgg
4)Another awesome point, even with the fans it literally still sounds like a passive solution. And I highly recommend the fans, for their cost to performance ratio is amazing.

Take note this is the Accelero S2, not the S1(I think its $24), the difference is that the S1 has 2 more heatpipes and from what I've read gets slightly better temps. Also the Accelero competes very well against the other $40~$50 solutions. Installation was a littler nerve wrecking(Having a $230 card for 1 day and already ripping it apart is akward) but fairly quick. All in all if you want to get a VGA cooler grab one of the Accelero's.

Update: Alright im done ocing my rig. Btw just a thermaltake duorb for my 8800 gt, peaks at 45c

CPU: Q6600 @ 3.6 ghz 401 x 9.0 1.2875v (Tuniq tower lapped)
RAM: 4 gb corsair pc2-6400 DHX 963 mhz 5-5-5-12 (Ai Clock Twister: Strong)
Mobo: Asus Maximus X38
GPU: EVGA 8800 GT (Duorb) 735/1840/985
Sound: X-Fi Xtrememusic
HDD: 2x WD 10,000 rpm 16mb cache Raptors RAID0
Antec 900 Case
Xp Pro 32-bit

All overclocks have been tested and stable, this is the max i can achieve on my 8800 GT 🙁 bit disappointed.
My cpu has a VID of 1.2250v 😀 however im limited by my cooling, peaks at 59c.

3Dmark06: 15,307
Im done ocing everything, its time to enjoy my games and just play.

Nice job @papasmurf211

I can't get my EVGA 8800GT past 711, and not because of heat. Mine never gets above 70C.

I did a lot of OCing today as well.

CPU: E2160 @ 3.2
GPU: eVGA 8800GT @ 702/1728/972

3DMark06: 11194

My goal was to break 12k in 3DMark but OCing the CPU does a lot for that then OCing the GPU. I'll shoot for 3.4GHz next week. 11k is still pretty good for what I have.....I think :heink: .

Thanks to cnumartyr, Evilonigiri, CompuTronix, (music starts to play, I choke back some tears) and everyone else....you know who you are!

Don't worry about not getting past 711 on your 8800GT mine is exactly the same way. I actually tried volt modding it again to see if it would help at higher resolutions since I got my new 24" monitor. Even when all the way @ 750/1915/995 all I gained was 2% in the sythetic 3DMark06. So even if it could go faster it doesn't seem to help in our case with the E21xx series cpu's, maybe with a more powerfull cpu like an OC Q6600 I would have seen the results shown to me, but ahwell.

Awesome overclock! You said you are only at 1.22v for cpu vcore? That's great! Most are having to run 1.35-1.45 for 400mhz x 9multi.

Can you get the gpu to run at 1000mhz memory in 3dmark?

This too is a great overclock. I think if you get an aftermarket cooler for the card... like the Akimbo from EVGA or a Zalman VF1000 and the accelero like bildo has you will get that sucker up to 730/1000.

When I benched my E8400 at 4205mhz with 2 EVGA 8800GT's set to 724/995 I scored 18661 in 3dmark06.... that's with Vista 64bit. I really wish I new what I could get with XP. Some say they are breaking 20k with the same set-up. I cant wait for new futuremark benchmark that requires Vista to compare.

Well, I have a new question about our 8800GT's. Is this rumor of the card breaking overtime with the memory speed @ or above 1Ghz true, or is it a bunch of bull? I am able to push my memory all the way to 1040. And during my testing last night to see if my volt mod added any real performance gain(hardly any over my non-voltmod OC)I played with the memory. I opened up fraps and portal. I have portal maxed out at 1920x1200. What I would do is load a certain lvl and not move and watch the fps counter. I would then change clocks, reload the lvl, not moving, and watch the fps counter go up and down. By this method going from my 700/1750/990 to 750/1915/990 I literally gained 1 FPS. So I cranked my memory up to 1040, and bam just like that my FPS counter went up 3~4FPS. For only adding 50MHz on the memory and no volt mod required that's a fairly solid jump at these settings. Now I even tried this on my non-volt modded settings of 700/1750/990, and again changed the memory up to 1040 and again gained another 3~4FPS even with the core being 50MHz undeclocked and the shader 165Mhz underclocked. So it's appearent that the memory speed has a pretty significant effect, at least in portal. Unfortunatly I don't have many other FPS to test it on considering HL2 is giving me a wierd error I have to go fix now(And it wasn't due to the overclocking 😛) Seems to be steam related...
