Hi all.

What's the best CPU to upgrade to from an Intel i5 7500? I'm not looking for anything over the top but decent enough I won't have to worry about the temperature of performance.

PC specs available on request.

Solution
Intel i5-7500
EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 SSC 6GB
ASUS PRIME B250M-A Motherboard (Socket 1151/B250/DDR4/S-ATA 600/Micro ATX)
16GB RAM
Corsair H100i CPU cooler
Corsair 750D Carbide Full tower case.
your motherboard supports the 7700K and 6700k,but it would be a waste of money to get a K model, since your mobo doesnt have a Z chipset (like Z170 or Z270),so it means it cant be overclocked, and K models of intel cpu's are bought specifically for that, overclocking.
Just get a i7 7700 or 6700 and you are good to go
well your mobo supports up to i9 9900K which is around 450$.
If you dont have the money for 9900k,i would go for i5 9600K which is 200$.Its a beast of a cpu and it can be overclocked. It will be a good upgrade from your i5 7500.There is also a i5 9600KF version, but i honestly dont know what that F means in terms of performance upgrade

Thanks but i9 9900K I've heard terrible things about the cooling. What sort of temps do the others you mentioned get to?

The temperature of the cpu only gets high if you either have a weak cooler or to little thermal paste.
9900K can be overclocked to 5.0GHz which requires really good coolers,so if you dont have a good cooler, you get high temps. So again,it only depends on your cooler and thermal paste application

ohhh...
Im sorry,but i got confused.
@Phaaze88 is right, you could not put that cpu in a z370 board.I think you meant ASUS Prime Z270-A.That board supports up to i7 7700K which is a apsolute beast of a cpu.It will be a huge upgrade from your i5 7500.Its around 350$.I7 6700K is also a pretty awesome option,at the pricepoint of around 300$.I dont really see any other worthy options that can be a replacement for your i5 7500.What are your full PC specs?

Wait a minute...
You're asking about an upgrade from an i5-7500, but say the ASUS Prime Z370-A II as your motherboard?
The latter doesn't natively support the former...
I should have worded myself better. I have a ASUS PRIME B250M-A Motherboard (Socket 1151/B250/DDR4/S-ATA 600/Micro ATX) - Black which does support it, also the other mobo

Thank you, I will take a look, another question; do you think my cooler it's capable of keeping it cool?

It's an i5. There really isn't a value upgrade, only replacement. The i7-7700 isn't much of anything more than what you have now + hyperthreading, so a 4c/8t instead of a 4c/4t. That'll help out in higher threaded games like mmorpgs, gta 5, etc but won't do squat for CSGO, LOL or any of the other lightly threaded games.

Even a 8700k on that Z370 mobo is only going to be a 10-15% bonus to fps without a decent OC, and then it might get as high as 25%-ish.

So unless you get a steal of a deal on ebay, for the money spent you'd be better off looking to AMD 3700x, or Intel 10600k or better. Being an i5 and basically nothing more than a slightly tweaked Skylake cpu at that, it's go big or go home because you are right in the middle of performance, any cpu remotely close in ability simply won't show gains enough to be worth the money.
