Not the oldest box I have but here's the poop...
I have an Athlon XP 3000+ 2GB DDR box with add in EIDE / ATA133 controllers, and a mess of old ATA133 120 ish GB PATA disks.
I would like to screw this thing back together, load an OS on it and use it to just serve SAMBA out of it. I know I can run CentOS 6.4 on it, and I work with RHEL all day long so there will be no unfamiliarity with the management of the OS, but I was wondering if there was a distribution out there that wasn't quite so bloated, or would I simply be better off thinning out the install of CentOS so I don't have all the crap that installs by default on it. (I don't need a full KDE / Gnome desktop for example.)
Also once the box is up and running as I want it, I am not terribly familair with what DNLA servers are avilable for such a low spec box... I am considering uShare as it is also available for DD-WRT. My eventual goal is to pick up a multi terabyte USB disk and tack that on to my DD-WRT router and eliminate this old box anyway... I just want to have something going in the mean time. (I just did my taxes last night, and have to put off further tech purchases for a few months... By the way, can anyone reccommend any sales on Top Ramen?)
