The HD7750 should still be in there as the most powerful card that doesn't need a PCIe power connection. I'd also like to see recommendations for DDR3 cards go away entirely (except maybe the HD6570). The performance jump to GDDR5 is too much not to take it. I found GW2 barely "sufferable" at 1600x900 on a HD6670 with GDDR5, and cannot imagine what it would have been like on a DDR3 card. If you're a kid, mow a lawn or two, walk some dogs, or wash a few cars for the difference. If you're an adult, a [temporary] diet change ought to do it; if not, I cannot help but think that a gaming graphics card may not be your best use of limited funds.

HEY! what magic is this ..??
7970Ghz in the same tier with 780gtx,,..???? really..???
am i in a parallel universe or something?
not only 780 is a million times faster,,, but also 770 is faster as well than a 7970ghz
tom put it one tier lower !! to 7970 and 680,770 where it belongs....there is NO WAY a 7970ghz is in the same tier with 780 and 590 or 6990... lower it down !! shame on you TOM !

They apparently wanted to separate the 7970 and the 7970 GHz, but it's kinda silly this way.

However, the 770 is not faster than the 7970 GHz. In the Tom's Hardware review, the 7970 GHz averaged 53.8 FPS while the GTX 770 averaged 52.4 FPS.

The starting comment is from December 13, 2012 1:00 AM, really? Why not just start the comments fresh when the article was penned why are you making us go thru all these irreverent post which have nothing to do with today article? Perhaps this is news to TH we are not interested in spending 10 mins passing by all these old post.

One question, why no haswell generation Intel graphics? At the very least, it should shed light on the minimum discrete card even worth considering.

I think the boys at TH didn't want the AMD top 4 tiers to only have AMD dual GPU cards so they put it up there where it doesn't belong. It should be on the same level with the standard 7970.

They did, look in the far right column labeled "Intel" by and down by the 6800 ultra and below.

the 7970ghz is a bit faster then the 770 if you disable boost II, or if you overclock both. not significantly mind you but it is a bit faster. Like the 770 it's definitely within 10-15% of the performance of a 780...

either way its looking more and more like tom's is stretching it a bit on their price/performance recommendations. they generally cut off recommendations around 500 because of diminishing returns... yet if you look at the price/performance numbers diminishing returns really REALLY kicks in around $200-$250 as the 7950 and 760 seem to be the end of the viable $/performance options. frankly, unless someone tells me cost is concern i won't even recommend a build with more gpu then a 760 or 7950... if they're needs are for more then one of them, i'll suggest a SLi/xfire build with them. otherwise there simply is no point to going higher.

when you consider the difference in performance from a 7950/760 and a 770/7970 is only about 10%, and the price difference is like 100%, there is no excuse or justification for ever going beyond the 7950 or 760 right now.

Do this instead...

Go to:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/forum-56.html

Select the thread you want, then click on Newest to go to the last page of most recent comments.
Assuming you already know the article update date (in this case, 11/Sep), click on Previous if
need be to get to the first post made after the article has been updated; for this thread, as I type,
the last page happens to be the right one anyway. Scroll down, find the first relevant newest
post (ie. 11/Sep or later), it's by cats_Paw this time round..

One thing for sure though, many don't know this "short cut", which is why I guess there are so
few comments made in this thread anymore.

I did suggest a simple shortcut on each article page, or at least at the end of the article, allowing
one to jump straight to the first post made after the article has been updated. Each post has a
date stamp so that should be easy to implement. Come on toms, hup to it. 8)

if not for me wanting to wait and see what kind of memory baseline the xbo/ps4 sets i'd be all over the 7970~$300. i doubt my 1gb 560 will be enough in the near future...

I bought two MSI GTX 670 power edition oc for 236$ each a week ago in a 300 units special sale. So I believe soon the gtx 670 will have lower prices and find a place in this list.

for a new fm1, fm2 pc, yes - with high speed ddr3 ram and one of the top skus. for an existing am3, am3+, intel pc - you can't put an apu in those and use it for gfx. :)

I would not pay for an HD6570 if I already have HD4000/4600...

So recommendation can not be there for JUST AM3...

the article is more about discreet gfx than it's about igpus. otherwise gt3e woulda gotten an honorable mention as the fastest igpu.

The article is about VALUE of discreet GPUs. Buying a discreet GPU when onboard iGPUs are near as capable or even MORE capable means the HD6570 does not represent a GOOD BUY...

Seems to me a HD6570 is still a worthwhile step up from HD2500, HD2000, and any lesser Intel IGP. People with [older] office PCs who want to play a few [older or casual] games might find it worthwhile.

But most of those games are perfectly capable of being played on HD2500 AT LEAST.
Not to sure about HD2000, never used it.

only true if all pcs have that kind of integrated graphics capability.
the reason for 6570's appearance is explained in the article.
value changes all the time, 6570 is mentioned because it currently represents value for all pcs in that price point. if apus or even hd5000 had 70-80% presence in pcs (desktops mostly), only then 6570's position can be argued better.

I agree fully with that argument. Do not agree that its a worth the 50$.
Guess I just do not see the point of such a card, others(Onus and you) do... 😀

if you play games with your igpu and it delivers a large percentage of 6570's performance then no reason to get one. this is the reason for <less than>radeon 6670-class discreet gfx cards' slow death. in the future, igpus will get even more powerful, turning these gfx cards into niche instead of mainstream.

i'd get one if i had weaker igpu. among other reasons: discreet cards are easy to recycle between builds, really useful for boosting older pcs' gaming performance (as long as the pc had weaker gfx).
