Best graphics game

I understand your point but the difference between BF3 and "Crysis 20" is that BF3 has been announced, confirmed and already set for release. And a bunch of videos are already out there showing us the graphics. My intention wasn't to mention a game that hasn't been released yet just for the sake of doing it, you can technically make an opinion on the graphics based on those videos.

But respecting your point, I'll have to say Crysis 2 probably has the best graphics in a released game up to this point.

One thing most don't concider about Crysis 2 is that it's cinematic graphics not just standard rendering like some. It's designed to put you in the setting of a movie, so in terms of that it's pretty good.

For me, I'd have to say Never Winter Nights II: MoTB or some of the custom modules out there and The Witcher II. The Aurora Engine was extremely powerful and coupled with the insanely customizable module system leads to the limits being determined by the player not the developers. Its still just a DX9 engine so its starting to show its age nowadays. The Witcher II is beyond amazing with its attention to detail.

As you can guess I'm deeply disappointed in modern FPS games. Most have turned in console run-and-gun ports that are weak. BF2 and to some extend BFBC2 was the last "great" FPS game. Hopefully CoD:MW3 will develop a separate PC version and not just another dummy console port / instant frag / unrealistic game. Although I'm seriously wanting to see a 64 vs 64 BF3 match with tanks, jeeps, helicopters and AA guns. With company commanders issuing orders and actual battle space management that requires strategy and communication to win, vs the current "kill as many as possible for high frag counts" mentality.

Far Cry 2. Its not a demanding game, but the graphics are plain brilliant!! Especially when you're travelling down the river(s) on one of them boats! There have been several occasions where I have just stopped in the middle of my boat ride and observed the scenery....kinda as if I myself were on a picnin there! :) Lol!

But that's the whole point, isn't it? The game might be damn slow, etc, but just for that one quality, it stands out in terms of graphics for me. And you don't need a rig from skynet to run the game! :)

I still think The Witcher 2 has gorgeously detailed graphics, although in my opinion it is still poorly optimized code.

It brought my GTX 570 to its knees, and I am upgrading to a 580.

Follow the herd amirite? It was released in 2007, and while gorgeous at the time and while punishing on the most powerful system for 2-3 years afterwards, I don't believe it can claim the title as "most gorgeous PC game" anymore.

Take off ubr sampling and it should run at a steady 60 fps; no reason to go to a 580 from a 570 for a reason such as ubersampling. My 570 runs it rock steady

I still stand by Metro and Witcher 2, funny witcher 2 is DX9 and sports some hefty DoF and lighting. Ive seen some people say BFBC2 and CoD games.... pshaww, although BFBC2 is a fun game, its looks definitely arent that of the other games i mentioned. CoD? yeah right. CoD feels cheap to me, although Blops had some decent cinematography elements, it still looked like poopy smears in thick cotton

Properly modded Crysis is still the best I've seen. (Xzero's Global Ambient Lighting/POM AF mod + Rygel's Texture Mod + High Res Foliage Mod)

This game was graphically way ahead of its time - not to mention that it still has the best player/FPS mechanics of any game to date (IMO).

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CoP with the Complete Mod is pretty stunning graphically, and has incredible art direction and atmosphere, but it is still pretty far behind Crysis. Even with the high-res textures, the weapons / hands models still come off a little cartoon-looking. The vegetation isn't a dot on a line compared to Crysis. I'm not putting it down or anything...it's one of my favorite games in life, but it can definitely be improved....especially in the FPS mechanics department. I actually think SoC felt a little better in this regard.

Metro 2033 looks great - maybe better than S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but it's kind of hard to compare since the Metro environment isn't nearly as varied. I'm totally stoked for the next one.

Crysis 2 doesn't look that good to me - even messing around with the advanced config tool that came out. The fact that Crytek killed the FPS mechanics they masterfully developed in the first game didn't help me like it any better. No prone? Auto-lean? Gag. Gutted suit functions and that awful jump lag.

It's hard to believe a game released in 2007 is still so impressive and capable. It still "feels" and looks better than anything else I've ever played in the genre.

the advanced config tool on all max is the same as the previous hardcore settings I was talking about. However, they added that feature for the ones that don't quiet meet the qualifications for the game and would like to run it on low settings.

I agree with you. Have Dirt 3 now and it does look pretty sweet! I don't think racing games on PC are a big draw these days due to the high price of the peripherals, and I am sure those make a big difference in playability. With that said, my Saitek keyboard gets me by enough to enjoy that and NFS Hot Pursuit.

There's no props for HL2 because this thread is about which games have the BEST graphics, and technically speaking, HL2 and FEAR aren't a dot on a line compared to Metro and Crysis.

This isn't a slam on either game, we're talking about graphics here - not whether or not the game is good or bad. HL2 and FEAR = static lighting, low-res textures, low-poly models, short draw distances, and all the other technical limitations that came with developing for the hardware of that era. What they DID have was excellent art direction - but you can't confuse great artwork with technical graphic quality.

Crysis was, and still is, a graphical work of art - especially with some of the mods that have come out since then that take it even farther. It's still one of the few games where I'm simply amazed, by just walking around, at how dynamic and impressive the environment is. When you consider the game came out in 2007, it puts it into perspective just how much Crytek was pushing the machines.
