Best IDE card for a PowerEdge 2300 ?

The original SCSI CD-Rom in my pe2300 is dying; I'm getting more frequent
read errors. I want to replace it with a CD-RW anyway, but these are almost
impossible to find in SCSI with a black face. I'll probably go with IDE
which means adding an IDE card to the pe2300.

I've tried two IDE cards, a SIIG SC-PE4A12 UATA-100 and a no-name ATA-66,
both hang the machine at POST. (The SIIG is an odd card anyway, it also
hangs an IBM, so I wasn't too surprised)

Anybody know of an IDE card that is KNOWN to work in a pe2300 ?

I don't really need the latest UATA-133, it's only for CD-Rom access.

if you ever want to boot from the CDROM again, DO NOT put an IDE Card in
there.

If the color is that much of a big deal to you, just remove the faceplate
and paint it.

Had to give up on the IDE anyway, tried several cards (Promise, SIIG, etc,)
couldn't find ANY that wouldn't hang it at POST. Must be something about
the motherboard, I even pulled every other card and turned off everything I
could find in the setup, still hung.

I ended up sticking in a beige Ricoh SCSI CD-RW (for now).

The problem isn't finding a black SCSI CD-ROM, it's finding a black SCSI
CD-RW.

Its a SERVER ...

get over it, or paint it !

you dont have other options !
