I use my PC for gaming (mainly World of Tanks right now) and playing Blu-rays.

PC specs are currently as follows:

Motherboard: M4A88TD-V EVO USB3 with built in Radeon HD 4250 chipset

CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 560 3.3GHz

PSU: CoolerMaster 600W Silent Pro Modular PSU - 50A Single Rail 9x SATA 2x PCI-E - full specs here: http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=4199 (DC output is near the bottom of the page in a grey box)

RAM: 4 GBytes

O/S: Windows 7 (32 bit)

Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 2232GW (connected via DVI)

In terms of expansion slots, I have:

2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (blue @ x16 mode, gray @ x4 mode) support ATI CrossFireX technology

1 x PCI Express 2.0 x1 slot

4 x PCI slots

Which 6000-series Radeon HD would be most suitable for my needs?

Thanks

You can go for a better card than you need(if you can afford) and keep it if you upgrade the rest of the hardware in the future. If that is a maybe - go with a hd6950.
Overkill for this monitor, but when you get your new monitor(nudge nudge wink wink) it will do nicely with most games - movies would be no problem at all.

Okay, let's ay that I go for the 6850 - I see that there are variations on that from various manufacturers, giving us cards like the XFX HD 6850, the Sapphire HD 6850, etc.

So will these variations also be suitable for use with my 600W PSU, given that they run a little faster and presumably draw more power?
