I'm needing a laptop for nuclear power simulation. Typically you would just want close to 5GHz CPU and at least 6 cores, 32GB memory, 2TB storage - that will do the trick without getting into the weeds. However, as I view BBB ratings for Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI - you name it, they're ALL in the toilet. Since laptops aren't as self-serviceable as desktops - generally speaking - is there any brand out there that has solid customer service / after sales support if something were to happen? Does anyone have any strong recommendations for or against any certain brands?

I'm not sure the BBB is the best measure of support. Folks with issues complain, else those without issues say little/nothing. If you sell a lot of systems, you are bound to have unhappy customers.

I have had excellent support from Dell, HP, and even Lenovo. No real experience with MSI.

For your stated purposes, I think you should look at the Dell Outlet site. Great systems, often with excellent support. The Precision 7560 I am using right now came from there. It included a 5 year "bumper to bumper" warranty that was purchased by the original buyer.

I purchased brand new, including the warranty. Likely one returned as not needed. Rock solid.
