Hi,

I’m working on creating a part list to build my first gaming PC, but I can’t make up my mind what motherboard to get. My budget is $200 - $250, I’m planning on getting a ryzen 9800x3d cpu and Nvidia 4080 super. I’ll be using Ethernet connection, but I do want the option for wifi.

I’m new to the PC world, so I’m not sure what features are must-have. I definitely want enough USB ports and USB C. I also read that is good to have a BIOS flashback feature. I also plan on having this PC for a while and I know it’s hard to future proof, but I want to get the best I can with my budget.

Thank you,

Here's some finer points that you might use to distinguish between and eliminate candidates:

How many NVMe ports do you need today and in the next few years? 2? 4?

What monitor connections do you require? Display Port? HDMI? More than 1?

How many system fan connectors do you need? 3? 5?

Do you have any particular attraction to full ATX rather than micro ATX? Or are you indifferent?

Do you have intentions of using very high speed RAM?

Are you quite particular about the sound chip on the board?

Is there anything really unusual about your use case? Just "gaming"? No overclocking? No extremely heavy loads for extended time periods?

In your price range, I'd look at MSI Mag Mortar series or Gigabyte Aorus Elite. Including micro ATX versions unless you have a strong aversion to micro. I haven't checked Asrock lately, they may have candidates.

You should be able to walk down the spec sheets of candidates between 200 and 250 and eliminate several. Leaving you with maybe 3 to 5. Beyond that, its pretty much cross your fingers and hope for the best.
