best motherboard to go with a i5 4670

Solution
Just make sure that you have got the 'K' version of the CPU.

In that case, though this is the cheapest board that you should overclock on. This is a relatively good board with 4 RAM slots, Overclocking support, 6 SATA 6Gb/sec ports, USB 3.0, SLI support and a lot of things.

No! wait!! If you have a 4670 CPU, then no need to spend more for the Z87 boards, since you cannot overclock that CPU.

Any B85 or H87 motherboard should be enough. There is absolutely no reason to spend more on the Z87 board when you cannot overclock the CPU.

For 4670, this Motherboard should be more than enough since you cannot overclock that.

No, you cannot overclock on B85 and H87 motherboard. You can only overclock on Z77 boards, but then too I do not recommend boards below $120 for overclocking even though they might be Z87.

Yeah, there were some b85/h87 boards that were able to overclock but they were soon blocked from doing so by Intel, because they want overclocking to be reserved for their premium, higher priced boards. It is a bad Intel business stratergy that we will have to live with.

For overclocking, the minimum board from major companies would be :

# Asrock --> Z87 Extreme 3
# MSI --> Z87-GD45
# Asus --> Z87-A
# Gigabyte --> Z87-D3H or Z87-UD3 (UD3 being better)

I hope this helps.

So you are saying even with the new bios update for b85 and h87 I should get a z87 to overclock, ok thank you.

Intel has patched that all up to remove any overclocking support from H87 and B85 boards, so yeah, even after update, there would be no overclocking unless you settle on an older version of Bios, but then too it is not guarenteed because patches apply automatically.

The best option would be to go for the Z87 board for overclocking purpose as I said earlier. You should not take risks.
