Currently, I am using a TP-Link WDN-4800 wireless card in my PC, but the connection is still highly unstable at times and can cause frequent ping spikes. I want to find other possible solutions for a more stable connection. My router is situated downstairs, while my PC is upstairs, so running an ethernet cable all the way upstairs is not an option. Would something like a powerline adapter work, or is there other things that I could try to get a more stable and consistent connection?

Thanks.

For wireless, I usually go with Alfa Network. Never had issues with their products, but drivers are rather difficult to get (still possible though). I currently use this if I'm not using Ethernet...

It's phenomenal, haven't had a single problem with it. It does run hot though!
