You can get a GeForce FX5200 PCI card with 128MB of memory for under $100 Canadian. I have one right now and I am able (with some overclocking) to score over 9700 on Aquamark3. I know the FX line has a bad name, and specifically the 5200, but as far as PCI cards go it has been a faithful performer.

Someone else will likely post with info on ATI PCI cards...I believe there was a 9100 made??

Mine is the PNY one...I have had 3 PNY video cards and have been happy with all of them, however, I have never had any problems with them, so I don't know anything about the customer service that they offer....

How about a PCI video card review? It should help you make an informed decision about which card would be best for you.

Having reviewed that article, thanks MLoot, there are definitely better PCI cards out there. The FX5600 if you want to stay with Nvidia, and the Radeon 9100 for an ATI choice. I have no idea how much those ones cost at the moment, so I suppose it depends on how much you have to spend.

Hi, im from the UK. I would highly reccomend the Radeon 9000 PCI which can be had from most online retailers. Ive found one Here which is about £50 inc vat. I highly doubt you would get much better performance from going to an fx5200, and tbh anything better than a gf4 mx is really going to be pushing the PCI bus.

Go with the Sapphyre if you can get it in UK, the best ATI cards next to the ATI retail.

I just read somewhere yesterday that ATI manufactured cards will only be available in North America, which is why you can't find 'em in the UK.

Anyway, to keep up with the topic in case someone THINKS to get a GF4MX440, I have one and it sucks..works okay for BF1942 at medium resolutions..Does RTCW great but that's more of a CPU think IMHO or at least older tech than the card's..Enemy territory, I'll not get started on that, suffice to say don't bother..Splinter Cell on a PIII800 with 256SDRAM on medium setting - awsome..

Essentially, ANY indoor game/video rendering I can get 80+FPS, BUT step outside or into an indoor area that renders outside stuff, say a hole in the wall or ceiling or window..and this card nearly comes to a grinding halt..sometimes on ET ALL i can get are 2-3 FPS if I'm lucky I can make it 5 meters..hehe..out of the spawn point before being killed..and that's 5 meters running backward..I don't know, I turn around and face 'outside' the map boundries and FPS is normal..lotta good that does me - which would explain the whole Splinter Cell thing since the entire game is Inside or at night..snowy maps or ice is THE WORST.
