Hi

I have a Radeon 9250 and its time to upgrade does anyone know what the best graphics card is for a PCI only slot.

Thanks

😀 I need a graphics card that can run Rainbow Six: Vegas and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and is PCI and my card doesnt seam to want to work with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The THQ videos load and then it goes black and plays the music. I havn't tried Rainbow Six: Vegas im debating whether or not i should buy it.

The weird part with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is that everything checked out OK in the preinstall Hardware check.

This is a joke right? LOL! Get a Tseng Labs or a Trident 1000. They rocked back in 1989 (vesa local bus)

Both games requires a GPU capable of supporting DirectX 9c.

The Radeon 9250 only supports DirectX 8.1.

A Pentium 4 3.0GHz (or similar CPU) is recommended for both games.

You need to buy an entirely new system to play those games.

Those are the highest performing pci cards out there and all most definitely the last new models to be introduced for the pci interface.
Id go for the x1300 BUT you may be able to unlock the 6200's disabled pipelines thus making it into an 6600. I have a 6600GT and it runs S.T.A.L.K.E.R on medium settings at 1024x768 quite well.

To above posters dont make fun of his statements when there are pci video cards available that can play these games decently on low settings.

Just for the record:

PCI-E = Rainbow Six: Vegas and Stalker
AGP = Doom 3 and Half-Life 2
PCI = ummm.... StarCraft?

Wow. I'm amazed someone adapted those GPUs for a PCI card. But they are about half the cost of building a newer PC using decent parts:

Athlon X2 3600+ = $69

Foxconn MCP61VM2MA-RS2H Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX = $60 - $15 Mail-In Rebate = $45

WINTEC AMPO 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR2 800 = $45

FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX400-PN 400w power supply = $44

Tack on about $12 for shipping. That works out to about $218.

The motherboard comes with a built in GeForce 6100. It'll smack the 9250 silly, but still not be good enough for Rainbow Six: Vegas and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

The PSU is necessary since power specs for modern PC parts has changed since the ancient days of the PCI video card.

Actually, it won't... I had an AthlonXP 2000+ w/ an AGP 9250, now I have an X2 3800+ w/ a GeForce6100, and I can tell you that the 9250 was faster (it played Halo at medium, now I can only play at low).

aye mate, i have your same problem. best pci graphics card i could find when i needed to get one to replace my integrated graphics was a fx5500 from newegg. Plays almost everything, definitely not smoothly but itll play. Some games work amazing on it, e.g. Call of Duty 2 looks absolutely beautiful. But if your looking for the BEST pci card this seems to take the cake, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161074

What was your old CPU? I'm sure there's an explanation for this...the 6100 is still built into motherboards as integrated yet today.

i take my previous post back go with this its the same as above but it has a 128bit memory bus not a 64bit one.

Thats funny.My 9250 seems to be able to play Hl2 and Cs:S on Med-high setting at 1024x768 just fine.

Yeah that may be so, but it is gddr2, which is a big step up.
And i agree with Atiwolf, PCI can play advanced games too, just not well. My Fx5500 could play age of empires 3 with some eye candy, gta SA with all the eye candy, halo with all the eye candy a lot of games at decent resolutions too. PCI sucks, but not that much :wink:

Ummm... it's in the post, I had an AthlonXP 2000+, now I have an Athlon64 X2 3800+.

I think the biggest bottleneck on the 6100 is that it shares system RAM.

Well, those were just rough guidelines where most cards fall into... there are always exceptions such as PCI X1300, which will play Doom 3 and HL2 nicely, and AGP X1950Pro's, which can handle top games (maybe not at full, though). I was talking more about mainstream. I think the last PCI graphics card to be released in the mainstream was the Riva TNT.
