It really depends on what you want. Realism or more arcade style. Project Cars 1 & 2, the Forza series, and the Dirt (I liked Dirt Rally) series are very good.

Highly debated if you read articles and forums and depends what is important to you. Do you have a wheel and peddles or just using a controller?
These are worth a look, Project Cars 2 (my favourite) and Asseto Corsa. AC is argued to be slightly more realistic but I don’t agree, PC2 as standard is a much bigger game with more to offer.

Try to play The Great Race on Steam https://store.steampowered.com/app/838440/The_Great_Race/ it is unknown indie gem with simple tag mechanics. I played with girlfriend last week on local host. For first run maybe you will have stuck in understanding because this game is not classic racing game. You dont need to race laps, but chase and run for grabbing more points
