Best spec for i5

Hello, how u all people doing???
i'm looking for an most best spec here.... best performance for gaming and editing photos...because i7 is too expensive....

oww....haha...i mean for core i5 best spec such as a suitable motherboard... so this core i5 can give it's best performance especially for gaming and photos editing...but i prefer more to GIGABYTE ....

The reason we've all said Asus is because we've all had better experiences with Asus, and for this generation of Intel chips we're all leaning towards Asus being the better brand.

Hence our recommendations.

Gigabyte boards are good, but without doing Google searches and reading up on them (which is kinda your job to be honest) we can't say because we don't know.

If you really want a Gigabyte board then go for it and read up!

emm....i also want to know for gaming, which is the best... core i5-661 or core i5-750???

It's a good all-round processor. Better for gaming than a dual-core? It will be yes. Better than a Phenom II X4 955 BE? Not usually - they're almost always equal in performance.

But the i5-750 will be better at graphics work, so I'd go with the i5-750.

guys...my fren have a problem here...he has P4 processor, then he want to buy a new graphic card, so which Graphic card is the best for his P4...that can get along with his P4 processor....

What's your friend's motherboard?

If it's socket 478 then he's limited to the long-dead AGP socket. I think the most powerful card you could get for AGP was a Radeon 3000 series (possibly a 3850). I know Nvidia released a 7800GT for AGP before moving to PCI-E.

If it's an early socket 775 motherboard he may have PCI-Express on it, but it will be gen 1 so probably won't handle the new cards, plus the processor will seriously bottleneck them anyway.

I honestly don't see any card past the Nvidia 7000 series or ATI Radeon 3000 series being worth the investment - the CPU just won't be able to keep up.

Depends.

i7 980X is the new 6-core and is the best you can get, but it costs $1,000 and will be a waste unless you're using heavily-threaded apps like 3D modelling, design and video production.

i7 920 is probably the best i7 all round because it can overclock just as well as the more expensive versions.

Be mindful though - the i7 860 is actually for socket 1156 motherboards, whereas all the i7 900s are for socket 1366.

But, we go back round to the original question you asked - unless you're doing intensive multi-threaded work you'd probably be better off with the i5 750.

Nope.

Not until the 930 replaces the 920 at the same price point like it's supposed to do. As long as the 930 is £20-£40 more expensive than the 920, or it runs out of stock, then the latter still wins out.

It really depends on what your budget is and what you're doing with your computer, so let's summarise what's been said in this thread so far and you'll be able to make a decision from there.


You want to do gaming and edit photos, and originally said i7 is too expensive.

I suggested:

Core i5 750
Asus P7P55D
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 CAS8 RAM
ATI Radeon 5850
Corsair VH550

You wanted a Gigabyte motherboard option too: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5

We suggested to stick with the quad-core i5 750 instead of the dual-core i5 661 as it performs better in multi-threaded applications.


So, you're probably best running the i5 750 - it's more than fast enough for what you want to do, it's a good price and the P55 chipset will run 2 top-end graphics cards with only a minor hit in performance if you want to add a second big card in the future.

Any i7 will cost too much money for the little extra performance you will get for what you want to do.

If you are low on money then look at the Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition - it will be a slower for photo editing but a lot cheaper than the i5 750.

sorry for being so late in this thread. =P
thats the same mobo that i have but i got antec ea650. and 4gb of ram. 5850 is ALWAYS sold out. i could not buy one since hes always out. and yeah, the i5-750 is the best for the money! you could read the tom's hardware on best gaming processor..

so about the mobo... how abot if i use the GA-P55-USB3L??
b'coz there's no other P55 model in my area...
