Big LCD widescreen monitors ?

19": 1440 x 900
20.1" - 22": 1680 x 1050
23-24": 1920 x 1200

Also consider if you want to use the monitor for HD video (hdtv, hddvd, blueray). The 24" monitor will be able show 1080p (1920x1080) in fullscreen without down-converting.

HD video is more and more common, so it would be good to consider it before making the purchase.

i bought the 22 inch version from acer and 0 ghosting. very satified but like most of you wrote, lack of support for pc games. my resolution max's out at 1600*1050 which is not supported in games such as bf2, nhl07.... so i have to play at 1280*1024 which are real nice. very good screen. to do it over again, i would get the 24 inch for this reason so i can play at higher resolutions. if you got the gpu for it, than don't hesitate, acer 24 inch or Dell 24 inch look great. i have seen the dell 24 inch fpw.

I LOVE my 24" 2405 Dell as well. great for gaming, movies, PIP and has TONS of inputs....it's perfect. Like mentioned earlier - it's the best monitor I've ever owned by far.

I have never had any problems with games not supporting it's widescreen. I play HL, FEAR, SS2, PainKiller with no problms. I have a Volt modded 7900GT card and it runs everything at almost the very higest settings. Darn close. FEAR is the hardest...and SS2 is just a poorly programmed game. POS in my opinion...too bad, I loved the first!

Agree, I have Dell's older 2405FPW and it rates according to THG at 20ms... but I rarely notice ghosting, and it never impedes the gaming since it is intermittent and only in a few scenarios...
in other words it is barely noticeable on my 2407, and the newer 2407 is significantly faster, so I suspect this would be a non-issue...
Just make sure you have a current and powerfull graphic card... mine is a HiS X1800XT running at 690MHz/1584MHz

I have the same two monitors running on a X1900XTX. Just like he says, they run beautifully in games. Highly recommended.

while talking bout 24 inchers, he suggests a 22 inch, wow.

First off newbie, read the original post. The guy asked if that 24" was any good, then he asked if we knew of any other monitors. Did he specifically say 24" monitor? No? Didn't think so? Why can't I throw out some 22" monitors? GG newbie, STFU.

How about the Samsung 24" monitor, I've heard some good reviews about it.

Worth taking a look at.

haha, I realize I've been talking about Samsung all the time. Nah, my current monitor is a 17" Dell LCD, The 1707FP and it's been carrying me over for two years, but 17" is way too little real estate. It's a great monitor, but I really don't need all the inputs it offers.

I really like the NEC monitors, but the price range of those are way too much for me.

OK you Samsung fanboy!

Anyway, Dell 2407 is a better deal than Samsung 244T.

Its also a worse monitor picture quality wise.
That may be true, but the Dell is still a better value. Dell has done a great job with their monitors of late. Where's Samsung's 30" offering?

I currently don't use a Samsung or Dell monitor, but I've owned both so my opinion is unbiased (unlike other people I know  ). I have been pretty loyal to Samsung over the years, but lately they have let their quality slip. I guess they took a gamble that 99% of the population wouldn't be able to feel the input lag, and they were correct. But, I'm part of the crowd that can detect it.

The 244T has some of the worst input lag of all. So, if you ever want to be a good CSS gamer it just won't work.

Yeah, I've seen some NEC monitors that look amazing. I just wish they weren't so bloody expensive!

Anyway, probably a good call sticking with your 17" because the prices of larger LCDs have really been dropping. When you do go to upgrade your $ will go a lot farther.

I'm hoping there are some nice black friday deals coming up, I've been crossing my fingers and praying every night that I can get some damn nice deals. I already got together a group of my friends to stake out Fry's, Compusa, and Bestbuy. We'll see how it goes.

I just bought the VX922wm at Costco. Coming from a 17" CRT, it's awesome. The price was right and I didn't need inputs to the monitor. That would be the only drawback if one was looking at this monitor.

Edit: I thought the VX922vm was no longer available for $299. I was wrong. It's good until October 29th. But, you need a membership to Costco to buy it.

If you have the money, go for a 24". Otherwise, I think the 22" widescreens are in the "sweet spot" for cost currently.

I did check Costco and they have a Sceptre 22" for $299 after MIR. I've used Sceptre before and they seem pretty good. I wouldn't have any problems getting this monitor for the price. It includes 2 USB ports which is a bonus.

I am looking at buying a 24 inch myself, and I actually was looking at the DELL, but recently I came up to this new BENQ monitor (LINK TO MONITOR ) It has some sorta thing to stop ghosting, (something like a black screen showing at 120HZ, which sorta takes away the ghosting, and apparebtly you would not see the black screen)

SO now I must consider how and what, and see reviews on it as I have not found any so far except that I think BENQ monitors are WCG sponsors :?

It would be crap for gaming becuase its inserting a black frame every 60th of a second. that means you only see half the frames if your framerate is 60fps, effectively only giving you 30fps updates.
Thats definately enough to lose the edge in an FPS.

This is unfortunate, because color quality out of the box is comparable to the Dell. Of course, we aren´t surprised as the panel is the same for both monitors. There are however some slight variations as we will see in the pages to come. Generally, defects are the same and are very difficult to correct.

From the article betweem the 24" samsung and Dell...

Also, the Acer 2416 also uses the same panel, but an older design...

Food for thought.

OK you Samsung fanboy!

Anyway, Dell 2407 is a better deal than Samsung 244T.

I got news for you... the Dell uses a samsung panel. probably the same one they use in their own monitors.
Yes, they use the same panel. Which is why the Dell is a better deal than the Samsung. The Dell is cheaper. That's my whole point! I said "better deal" not "better monitor with better technology that totally pwns Samsung all over the place in every way".

yeah sorry a slip of the finger, I mean to reply to Enforcer22 who said the picture was worse on the dell. Which would be impossible as they both use the same panel.

Except for the fact the samsung monitor shows better colors and blacks then the dell one which to me is far from a better deal if it looks worse. But then again i could care less about hte price as long as its good. Im not a kiddie striker nore do i want to be but that game doesnt exactly offer speed over other FPS games. Many reviews i have read including the links whoever posted i think it was you also stated that the dell didnt show blacks as good as the samsung or colors. Just remember the panal is only part of the monitor. Since the tech is hte same but samsung actualy uses it better i dont see how the dell "pwns" the samsung in everyway that just doesnt make sense. But im sure the only tech they use thats 100% the same is the panal its self. the samsung 30" isnt out yet but here is a link (also the monitor im buying on next build) http://www.samsung.com/PressCenter/PressRelease/PressRelease.asp?seq=20061010_0000293416
I should also mention the link that talked about the color represintation of hte two monitors said the dell ha d ahigher average "input lag" then the samsung.

Just to clear up what i thought were accusations i am not a fanboy of samsung i could really care less who makes the better monitor ill just get that one just happened samsung made the better 24" monitor so i got that one. If it turns out they dont make the better 30" i wont be buying the one in the link. I have at least 8 months to decide so im not to worried about it right now.

Whatever, fanboy. I've had enough of this crap so you know what? You're absolutely right. The samsungs are just great. I was insane when I hated my last samsung and took it back.

I'm not going to waste my time arguing with somebody who can't read/write in English.

i am perfectly capable of reading and writing english sorry my grammar isnt up to snuff for you teach. I read the links since i cant see in frames and apperantly cant see the lag they are pretty usless to me. But if you dont like that they said the dell was worse showign colors blacks and had worse imput lag dont get mad at me get mad at them. calling me a fanboy for pointing that out is just plain childish.

This thread took a turn for the worse since I've last checked... I was pretty sure that samsung fanboy comment was directed towards me, but its all good...

Either way, Dell and Samsung make good monitors, can't go wrong with either. And just because the panels are the same doesn't mean the monitors are either...

Play battle field 2 and youll see the problem with some games and wide screen. almost makes me cry.
