Come visit me in Sweden for a week or two, and I'll tell you all about it.

Bill Gates is not generous. Someone who makes 50,000 a year and gives a hundred bucks to charity is way more generous than he is. That person must actually give something up to give away that money, be it an earlier retirement or a trip with the family to the movies. When Bill Gates could give up almost all of his money and not change his lifestyle one iota. He is not giving up anything, other than a meaningless number.

There should be a cap on the amount of income someone can make. Any single person should not be in a situation of so much power.

My menial investments went up 37% last year. It's because the previous year is when the market crashed. I just left my money where it was.

I really hope Bill Gates is putting his money towards education and research. Feeding people in third world countries is pointless, as they survive another day and they just make more mouths to feed. If you want to make any long term change you have to thing long term. Otherwise history will just repeat itself.

Political systems notwithstanding 😛

You know, the more I study wealth and the more I try to develop my own, the more I find myself trying to stay the hell away from people who hate on people like Bill and Carlos.

For them, the distribution of wealth is disgusting. For me, the "tall poppy syndrome" that some people have is disgusting.

"Tall Poppy Syndrome (TPS) is a pejorative term used in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada to describe a social phenomenon in which people of genuine merit are resented, attacked, cut down, or criticised because their talents or achievements elevate them above or distinguish them from their peers." -Wikipedia

Here's an idea for those out there with a poverty mentality; before commentating on Bill and Carlos, and thinking that they owe you something just because they happen to be more successful than you, go and educate yourself on what they had to do to achieve their successes. If you're not willing to go through the same amount of risk and workload, then stop complaining.

So what you're suggesting to right the wrongs of society is overthrow the government, do away with capitalism, and elect you as our new leader...right?

So lets see a person of his age that has made 50,000 a year should have a net worth of $300,000 to $500,000 easy. So if they give $100 that is only .02% - .03% of their net worth. But the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has given $28 BILLION to charity or over 50% of his net worth.

And what is that person giving up but donating $100? A couple of cartons of smokes or a night out on the town? Get a clue

Where in my previous post did I talk about doing away with capitalism? If anything I was advocating capitalism! Of course there needs to be a happy medium of all the -isms, because as long as people will be ignorant about how money works (thanks education system!), there will be poor people who need assistance, and it's human decency to help them (if they want to be helped).

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my orginal point. One of the facts of life today is that, whether we like it or not, we all play the game of money. Some people (like Bill and Carlos) are better at the game of money than others. A lot of the time this is through a lot of hard work and risk-taking (which is why they can stay wealthy whereas a lotto winner will usually end up worse off 5 years after they won lotto than before; the hard work and risk taking is the education).

However, some people want the rewards without playing the game. Then they think "That guy who has more rewards doesn't need it all, I should be able to have some of their rewards" (rewards that they worked hard and took risks for).

Now, if you aren't willing to go through what Bill and Carlos did to get to where they are today, then that's fine. Just don't complain that they have more than you, because it's no-one's fault but your own for not trying to bring yourself to their level of wealth.

TL;DR: Hate the game, not the player.

+1

Bravo

Thank you; sincerely appreciated :)

It makes me laugh somtimes, how some people insinuate that poverty is honourable, whereas wealth is despicable. Bill Gates gives away billions of dollars and some people hate on him, because they want what he's got without having to do what he's done. Either that, or they're angry that the money is going to something important instead of their next upgrade.

I guess I should keep the facts of wealth away from those who don't want to hear it though; just wasting my time and energy otherwise :)

Anyway, part of getting wealthy is taking risks, and nothing says risky like a bet. So... Anyone wanna bet that the next time there's a thread about a wealthy person there will also be a post that contains the words "greedy rich people"? 😉

first of all bill gates as a white guy didnt lose to a hispanic man cuz hispanic is not nor will it ever be a race. next carlos slim helu is 100% lebanese decent which would make him 100% caucasian more than a lot of US whites in general. so what exactly is white/caucasian in US and what the heck is latino/hispanic to you? because there are a lot of latinos (in fact most) that are either white or mostly white racially. did you mean anglo by any chance?? so when i see stupid posts like these that dont check what race or ethnicity means im starting to realize why USA is going downhill fast.
