Bios settings Biostar Mcp6p M2+ Mobo, help

I just paired a biostar mcp6p m2+ with an amd athlon x2 255 3.1ghz dual core. I've done overclocking before but on an intel chip and a gigabyte motherboard. I can't seem to find settings that allow me to adjust the vcore...it shows in the PC HEALTH section of the bios that the vcore is set to 1.44. In the "pc boost" section of the bios, I can increase vcore by certain percentages but not change it up or down. I'm thinking that a vcore of 1.44 is WAYYY too high for this chip with no overclock at all. Does ANYONE know if I can change this vcore or am I stuck with risking to burn my processor? I occasionally get a warning on the boot screen saying "adjust cpu frequency, started in safe mode." I'm guessing this is due to the really high vcore. I recently updated to most recent bios as well.

Just in case it matters, cpuz is showing core voltage as 1.152.


Also, it seems the computer case's fan and/or cpu fan is too high as I Can hear it. How can I adjust those as well? Both are connected to the motherboard and shows as CPU fan and SYS FAN 1. Anyhelp would be appreciated as I am new to amd and this motherboard. Thanks a lot
 
I have this board, and it's very difficult to reset the bios; the cmos jumper didn't work for me. I had to remove the board battery with the power supply unplugged. The board has multiple voltage settings; I recommend you disable "cool and quiet" when overclocking. Try an ht setting of 14 for the multiplier, cpu fsb of 240, and ram setting of 667. These settings might work. On my msi 6150se board, it had memory ratios; I used 1:1.66 and had no problems overclocking a propus 620 at 240 fsb with no voltage increase. To reduce the cpu fan speed, go into the last section on the left; set a shutdown temp of 70c and let the fan calibrate. After calibrating, set the numerical values lower from 1-5 and your cpu fan speed will slow when you save and exit; mine runs at around 1500 rpm most of the time. I don't mind temps in the 50c range; I prefer quiet.
 
Some recommendations if you don't mind removing the board battery to reset the bios; these settings might result in the system not posting:

In the "Pc health status" section:

Cpu smart fan auto
smart fan calibration press enter to calibrate; after calibrating, change settings below:
pwm duty off 5
pwm duty start 45
start pwm value 1
smart fan slope 5

shutdown temp 70c

In the advanced chipset go to "cpu feature" to disable cool and quiet.

In the "performance booster zone" section:

set NPT FID control setting to 14

set cpu frequency to 240

IN the last section "dram configuration"

Change the first setting from auto to manual

change the memory clock to 667

f10 key to save and exit. If it doesn't post, remove the board battery and start over. I don't overclock this board for this reason.

 
Hey thanks for the suggesstions, i will definitely give those fan settings a try. howeever for the cpu, right now im not looking to overclock...im looking just to get my stock cpu stable and i think its because of that vcore. does the settings you suggest lower the vcore? if not, is there a way to do it. thanks
 
Don't know why your system is unstable. Check your ram voltage specs. The cpu voltage shouldn't have to be changed to improve stability. Chances are it's due to ram settings. Did you do a fresh install of windows when you changed to this board? And the cpu voltage should be more accurate when you disable cool and quiet. After disabling cool and quiet, compare the cpu voltage in the bios to cpuid. They should be the same. The cpu voltage reading is in the pc health status section.
 



No I did not do a fresh install. I actually first changed the mobo and the cpu/ram only and kept the hard drive with windows XP on it. After using that, I simply decided to wipe the hard drive and installed windows 7 64 bit. Again I don't know but the mobo sets the Vcore to 1.44 which I think is above the safe rating. My ram voltage sets to 1.95V and I'm able to increase those in the bios. My ram is rated between 1.9 and 2.0 so that is fine. I haven't touched anything in the bios and I'm pretty sure it's the CPU Vcore which is causing slight instability. So there is no way to lower vcore? Should I try disabling cool and quiet and see how that affects it? Thanks
 
My propus 620 ran at 1.384 volts with cool and quiet disabled. The voltage can range from a low of .99 to a high of 1.4. But for my be2400 45w, the cpu voltage range is different; the motherboard selected voltages ranging from about .8 to 1.25. 1.44 may not be too high for your cpu. You can lower it to 1.2-1.3 if you're not overclocking in the "performance booster zone"; lower it too much, and the board won't post. I also found that windows 7 doesn't work well with some ati catylist driver programs. I use only the driver selected by windows 7 and avoid updating the ati catylist. If your card is an nvidia chipset, then it may run fine with the newer drivers. I use 32 bit windows 7 ultimate, and my system is very stable.
 




Exactly how do you lower it in the performance booster zone? Could you please check that out for me because you have the same mobo? There is no section that allows me the lower it in the bios......

I also only got drivers selected by windows 7 and I have the nvidia chipset (chipset that comes with this board)
 
First, disable cool and quiet. Then, in the "performance booster zone" section select the "NPT VID control and press enter. Change the setting from auto to 1.1; then f10 to save and exit. Then as the system is reposting, press the"del" key again to check the cpu voltage in the "pc health status" section. It should match the new setting exactly. If the system is unstable with the new setting, try 1.2 volts. Also try enabling cool and quiet if you desire after finding a good stable voltage. As a last resort, you may flash the bios. I checked the bios update file, and no fixes are listed. I have no idea what problems the last bios version addresses. If you've never done it before, use the "pause" key and write down your bios version at the top of the post screen and see if it matches the last bios version listed, which is 61PBM903.BSS (underlined in blue in biostar's bios section for this motherboard). If it does, then you have the latest version, and flashing won't do you any good. If you proceed, you will have to disable "boot block" in the bios first. Then download both the bios file, and the windows flash program below with the yellow screen. When you double click it, you save the file in the documents section. After the download completes, you may get 2 files when you unzip the flash program. Can't remember what happens next. You're on your own if you proceed. I tried this bios file once, and noticed no difference in stability or performance over the older bios file. So I won't flash again.
 



So first I tried adjusting the fan settings like you said. It does seem to slow down the CPU fan, but the main problem I have is the case fan which makes a lot of noise. Is there a way to slow that down and control that? I just calibrated and set the fan control to auto and it does seem to lower the cpu fan however to around 1000RPM but the case fan stays around 1800RPM....

Also I still cannot find how to lower the vcore. In CPUZ, the vcore stays at 1.44 volts when it hits the 15.5 multiplier. It still seems unstable. here is exactly what I have available in the "performance booster zone"

So that's all I have, no NPT Vid control like you are talking about. Again I already got the latest bios update as well so I still have no idea how to lower voltage!!!
 
Doesn't help resolve this but I have exact same board and CPU (Fry's special) and I have the same issue. VCore is 1.44 and no way to lower it in BIOS I can find. Also getting the Engrish "please resetting the CPU frequency" message on occaison. Emailed BIOSTAR about the VCore level but no repsonse yet.
 
After reducing the cpu voltage using my method, I checked my readings using the pc health status and cpuid for accuracy, and they were both dead on with my board. With cool and quiet enabled, the readings are all over the place. I recommend a zalman fan mate rpm adjuster for case fans, or a controller panel from newegg. They have some as low as $12. You must have a different bios version since you're missing the NPT Vid control setting. I'm really surprised, since I've had 3 of these boards from frys; I buy alot of their combo specials. Mine are all version 6.x.
 
No. At the post screen, my bios version is listed as: 61PBM731 BF. As I mentioned earlier, lowering the cpu voltage may not help you. Your 1.44 reading may have been set by amd for a reason. The higher the speed, the more voltage is required except for low voltage cpus. Another poster got a hold of a 605E quad core, which is extremely rare; haven't seen it anywhere in the usa. It runs at 2300 but the default voltage is around 1 volt.
 


Hey if you get ANY info on this and how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate it. I also got that Fry's combo and it's causing some instability problems and my guess is that it is the vcore. Please post if you figure anything out and I'll do the same, thanks a lot
 
Will get back to you if I find out anything from someone locally. I don't know if my bios version is available in biostar's archives somewhere. You must have gotten a different batch of boards. You can try flashing to the latest bios file, but it's risky. Good luck.
 


 



Update: I ended up taking mine back to Fry's since I was near the end my return deadline. In exchange I got their latest special an Athlon II x3 440 with MSI 785GTM-E45 board for $79. Was only $20 more than the X2 255/Biostar MCP6P M2+ board combo. Noticeably faster and much more robust MoBo.

With the MSI board VCore (under 1.44v) and DDR2 (1.8v instead of 1.95v) show correct voltages and are also configurable from the BIOS. And interestingly also is that with the Biostar board Windows only showed 2.87GB of 4gb as installed and now with the MSI it reports 3.25GB. Don't know if that is because of the different chipsets NVidia vs AMD or just another quirk of the Biostar board.

My final thought was that the MCP6P M2+ doesn't truly support the Athlon X2 255 with the current BIOS or it is just purely a low-end junker board with questionable build quality.

Only response I got from Biostar support on the problem was "disconnect floppy cable" and "Load optimized defaults". Both of which I stated in my email to them I had already done prior to contacting support.

I'm having the exact same problem with CPU showing 1.456 volts and in CPUZ is show something like 1.2 volts
CPU is a retail AMD II x2 250 and only using 1 stick of 1gig RAM.
My CPU rated between .85v to 1.425v as per AMD site
Can not figure out how to lower the cpu voltage within the BIOS
My MB is version 6.3

I also send Biostar and email in ESupport and we will see if they reply.

I have looked and tried most of the suggestions here but can't figure out where is NPT VID control entry is to change from Auto to 1.1v

Anyone?

In the bios there is an option on the left hand side menu, i think its the third option down.
There is a option there for CPU, Go in to those settings and disable the quiet/cool settings.

Now it will no longer step down under low CPU load and it will show you the numbers your
expecting.

 
I also have a BIOSTAR MB MCP6P M2+

I did a full clean install of WinXP with all the updates.
Latest Bios version.
All works well then all of a sudden when booting it always ask what do I want to boot from .
HD is the answer then it boots ok.
Can not figure out what the problem is.
Is it in the BIOS or is it I lost my Master Boot Record or what.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Oh the boot sequence is HD, CD then floppy
 
I've bought a few of these boards at Fry's. They really are not that bad. To the original poster, and to anyone else who may care. The north bridge on this thing gets HOT 150F +. Look at the heat sink on that thing. It's total crap, then Biostar goes and uses some heat sink pad to act as the compound medium. I'm pretty sure all it does is insulate the chip. Replace that heat sink and system stability is rock solid.

Everest Ultimate will read North bridge temps, you can get a 30day trial. North bridge is listed as "MCP" in the sensors section.

 
I assembled a system with this motherborad---> MCP6P M2+.
After rebooting the 1st time nothing came up. Just a black screen. After a while of disconnecting almost everything, I used the jumper to reset the CMOS BIOS Settings. And then it booted up with this message--- "Warning! Now system in safe mode. Please re-setting of CPU frequency in CMOS." Then I continued to install Windows Xp. Again I had to restart and got a black screen. I reset the BIOS settings again and it came back on.
So I continued to load XP and other software, but each time I had to restart I had to reset the BIOS CMOS settings. I tried changing other settings in the BIOS but nothing worked. I tried some of the suggestions on this site, but no luck. At the end of the night I removed the CMOS battery and reinstalled it the next day and the PC booted up ok. So far today I have turned it on and off several times and it worked fine. I don't know what happened, but some setting must of locked up, or got stuck, or whatever, and removing the battery somehow allowed a reset of eveything. So far it's fine.

now that the onboard video from the back of the computer has broken/revoved
was removed for fire hazard risks/ was not repairable soldered broke loose from the board it was attached to made by biostar INC
I went out and bought a brand new ATi Diamond Multimedia Radeon HD 6450 pci express 512MB GDDR2

my problem is my video is not coming up/ no post
now I did read there pdf material for my board on bio setting enabing features etc but thats only if you had the onboard video to get there first hahah
right come on lol
can you help me out here if theres a solutio
my only sollution thought of mind o knowledge where to go is
I can go buy a new board same 100 % at electronic pc store they have it take this video card back come back bio-settings with new board then return it buy the video card again then procide?? would you suggest that?????
