Question BIOS/System Problems

Whenever I turn on or restart my PC I am always met with the same screen/message and it always resets the BIOS settings. If I change the settings, F10 to save, then go past that raid configuration pop up screen again and press f8 to bring up bootable drives and boot into my windows drive then I can use windows with the changed settings. After shutdown or restart I have to rinse and repeat.

There is also a small chance maybe 5% that when I boot it doesn't find a bootable drive at all when I power up. This is always fixed with a restart or 2. I have replaced CMOS battery and flashed the bios to try and solve.

Screen 1

Screen 2

After I changed the settings, went to F10 to save and restart I get the first screen again but the settings stay (Memory set to 3200).
I press F8 to bring up the bootable drives and boot straight into windows from that screen. Any other way brings me back to screen 1 and resets the settings.

Also I should mention that once I am in windows it runs fine. No crashes or under performance or anything of the sort.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried clearing the contacts on the CMOS battery enclosure? Is there any sign of corrosion there?

Check that it's in properly though, in the battery holder and + symbol facing up.

try booting with 1 stick of ram

No corrosion and tried it with 1 stick on each stick/slot

I am currently trying to diagnose it and I noticed on the first screen it says I have 2 keyboards and 1 mice plugged in but all I have is a keyboard currently plugged in

How long ago did you update the bios? That is the latest you have on, was it flashed on to fix problem?

the previous bios wasn't much better, people avoided it as well.
Updated it today and once before that too. I've had this problem for a while but because it's not affected performance I've just ignored it.

i guess once bios set up every day, it wouldn't... but it sure slows down startup.

I expect it doesn't help with windows updates either since they all include a restart.

the usb thing is random, a fix in normal cases could be reset bios but I don't think that is it. No forgotten Wifi dongles or extra USB you forgot about? a 2nd keyboard would be hard to miss

Sounds buggy.

That's pretty much it. I can't put it in sleep mode either as it basically shuts down instead. And no I only had a keyboard, power and hdmi to gpu. I don't expect any help from asus that wouldn't be a redirect to their forums which are very dead compared to this forum. It's been well over 2 years that I've had this mobo so I doubt they would replace it or anything considering I've removed the cpu plastic header thing to clean it when this popped up. Still hoping this is a software rather than hardware issue but it looks like I might just have to suck it up and deal with it until I get a replacement

windows shouldn't be able to stop a PC starting. if you use the power button, it can change what they do but none of them turn switch off
You can set it to:
  1. turn on fast startup
  2. Go into sleep
  3. Hibernate
  4. Lock

windows can't change BIOS settings. It can alter them while they run but it can't perma change them

Only software left is BIOS. It isn't normally forgetful.

You could try ubuntu just to remove windows completely from blame but I think its hardware. You can run it off USB - https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/try-ubuntu-before-you-install - but I don't think that would be enough to prove anything.

Yeah no I use the sleep button in the task bar to hibernate it and it basically slips into a coma and i have to restart it. So that 1st screen that says about raid configuration that only happens due to loss of bios state?
