Question bios will not accept changes

my bios will not accept changes to my boot configuration. 1] bios does not at this point recognize that a dvd is attached 2] when any change is made to my boot config, when closing to accept that change the bios says "save changes and reset". i save and exit and the bios is reset to default which is ms boot mgr. how to fix this. gigabyte is no help. I need to install a new copy as i continue to get a blue screen with the message "software updating". updates are off and W11 is fully current on updates. this since i was hacked and was assured by my pc advisor that all had been corrected. so i figure that a complete new install should resolve that issue. but that won't work until i can get bios to change.

What BIOS version are you currently on for your motherboard?

Just curious, are you moving the primary boot device away from Windows Boot Manager? You can select a bootable device off your BIOS, or through the troubleshooting screen from Windows if you press and hold down the shift key when you initiate a system reboot from Start

You could also recreate your bootable installer using Windows Creation Tools so you're not having to update the OS after the install. On a side note, you should install the OS in offline mode.

Hey there,

You will most likely have to clear CMOS on your bios. This will default everything back to the default settings.

You might also consider if the button battery which backs up the CMOS BIOS is old that it is time to replace the battery. Mostly they last over five years. An inability to retain CMOS BIOS with continuous power applied is different than a CMOS BIOS unable to retain memory when the system is unplugged/unpowered...when main power goes away, so does the power to the BIOS if the battery is bad.

The DVD Drive, is it for Blu Rays as well? They need certain SATA specifications. Maybe try a different SATA connector on the board?
Exchanging the CMOS battery will probably solve the other issue. It's always a CR2032 nowadays, as far as i know.

i cleared cmos. battery is brand new. i haven't had the weird blue screen since but the bs is a sometime thing so i'll have to wait and see. bios still doesn't see any dvd/usb drive so i'm still lost. of course if the blue screen never returns it makes no difference anyway. wait and see. the cmos suggestion was good. it gave me something to try. i'm going to close the thread until i get another blue screen. thanks.
