Bit of trouble with system

Been having a major heck of a week setting up a new system. Should have went with a barebone kit to begin with but decided to start with just a MSI 970A-G45 motherboard and the AMD 8 core 8150. This will also seem like a unfolding of a disaster I think anyways would REALLY enjoy some helpful suggestions, running low on energy and getting desperate.

First tried to install into my ibuypower system case with its harddrive, well come to find out they key the windows to the bios and so forth, so had to order in a Harddrive got another 1TB drive. Installed windows just fine no problems, other then that of updating the bios for the FX processors >.< . . . so the six core from ibuypower case gets swaped into new motherboard so i can install windows and do the live updates to get updated bios.

So i get the latest bios 1.4 and amd chipset drivers. Computer goes off swap out 6 core for the 8 core runs nice starts up all good. Well next comes installing ASUS Xonar DG audio drivers did disk but just recently grabed it off their website. Also installed the mouse drivers, and got the AMD video card driver updater got the latest for my card Radeon hd 6770 so thats fine.

Now i will start listing the problems Ive come across =\

Ive noticed that my graphics card's little copper teeth that you connect into the PCI express 2 of the small copper strips are missing just a smudge of copper enough that its noticeable but it should still run? If no i have a new graphics card coming this monday thats my next step to my guess and check.

The problem I AM trying to fix is when im playing Battlefield 3 or World of Warcraft for about 40 mins on battlefield or 4 hours on World of warcraft the system will shut down compeltely and the power light blinked. So i did some research into anything related came up across some sleep settings on my bios set it to OS controlled and made it so if a problem happens the bios will just restart the computer.

So now it does a lovely rainbow smear of my game for less then split second then the blue screen error 0x0000001E or something like that followed by the hexidecimal 0's and a ton of them. Then just restarts and acts like nothing happened.

Now to go over some side notes: i have ran MSI Kombuster which tests my GPU and it passes the test and didnt crash while it happened on high settings, so i figure that solves the graphics card issue. It isnt overheating either I have core temp watcher that shows the degrees in C its stayed anywhere from 18 - 58 ish MAX on the cpu while running my games. The GPU temp is around 40-60 but i have adjusted the fan to speed up the hotter it gets to cool it some more.

So on my list anyways overheating is crossed off. Thermal paste Ive checked and even changed the paste still about same temps its on there correctly.

Now another thing in my mind was maby the power supply is faulty somehow, so i switched my current xion 700 watt psu with a 600 psu from a custom built that i knew worked.

Fired up fine showed full activity everything looked good. Got into battlefield agian ran a good game multiple maps for about 2 hours, i thought yes! i had it, till the screen went black . . . the whole system was still running i could hear ctrl alt delete was unresponsive so were any keys mouse nope. No blinking power light. So i held power button turned off then back on.

Friend said that its the psu its too weak and to look into a 800 or even 900 watt supply not on my budget at the moment would rather try another solution if there is one to all this.

Have done a dskchk to check if harddrive defected and it wasnt, so thats good. Will be checking after posting this the RAM with memtest86 i doubt its the ram though.

Im only seeing 3 things myself that could be causing this problem which would be bad motherboard, low psu, or some installation i missed. This whole situation has been wearing me out from just upgrading a system to building a wacky custom built, id just like to finish this whole mess and call it.

Quick run down list ive made:
-Graphics card runs fine the defect didnt seem to affect it
-The Cpu is fully working on the system no problems
-No part on the computer is way hot to touch or seems to be overheating
-All connectors inside are connected correctly
-Ive checked for any drivers i missed i have all installed

On a last note i have no option to just completely scrap this entire setup and just buy a new one, out of question so i have to get this one working.

remember please any comments that would help be progress to solving this issue, ill post after your suggestion the results. Also please try not to do that "having same problem so heres my specs" because thats no help to me, just follow this thread for help. Ran across alot of that off other help threads from toms hardware seems like good site to go to for help.

that's a wall of text.

Friend said that its the psu its too weak and to look into a 800 or even 900 watt supply not on my budget at the moment would rather try another solution if there is one to all this.
A 6670 does not need a 800W or 900W psu. a decent 500W is plenty. Please tell this to your friend before he gets others to waste money.

Ram is likely. Faulty out of box ram is not uncommon. Post the memtest results (and use the boot disc memtest).

What are your cpu temps on prime95? use realtemp or coretemp to read it.

Have you installed latest drivers for your 6670? get them at amd.com.

I'm assuming nothing is OCed?

Just finished a memtest86 no problems detected with my ram.

And the graphics card is a 6770 i know theres more power consumtion the higher the series.

I already said what the coretemp showed ill see about posting a image or the full results I see.

And yes ive already checked about 3 times i have the latest video drivers

And no I wont overclock anything until i can get this system to run battlefield 3 for more then 40min-3 hours. My six core could handle it so im a bit stumped on this.

a 6770 is fine with either of those PSUs.

I thought you were talking about your gpu with the temps, sry.

If its not ram it's either gpu or mobo. Unfortunately, passing a gpu stress test doesn't rule the gpu out.

Do you have another gpu you could test? it can be old, just as long as you know it works. Either that or test the current gpu in an older system.

If you don't have either, try sticking it in the other pcie slot.

oh and check another game. BF3 has been causing problems for some people, it'd be good to rule it out as the problem.

Well it does it on long hours on World of warcraft too which has never happened before. Ill try another slot on the board then thx for help so far.

Just changed video card to bottom pci express slot, its literally right ontop of my powersupply but what i wana point out is i watched the temps this time cpu never went higher then 50 c however this time i watched GPU graphics card get up to 79 C so i closed the game wondering if earlier it just was not saying actually how hot it was getting cause when it was in the other slot it only showed 40-50 c max on the graphics card.

I have a new card i ordered on friday in fear of this card being bad i ordered radeon hd 6850 wondering if with this new problem arrising my upper express slot is damaged? or was it just the card?

Ill post back if any new suggestions or problems arrise. If not ill be back monday when i try new card

EDIT: Just wanted to also say im going to move my psu out of the case just to see if this other slot does work beter that way the card can breathe might be looking at a new case if thats the answer

Hey i think that fixed it, the top PCI express may have been defected. Moved video card to the bottom one ran BF3 58c max on the GPU even though i moved the psu outa the case if it crashes ill make a new post but till then thx for help looks like ill just be after a case

Awesome, rma the mobo, though. A broken pcie slot is not acceptable.
Preferably rma it to the store you bought it at and not msi. It'll be easier.

and for temps, anything under about 85 is fine for short periods of time. Many people run their gpus over 90 everytime they game in prebuilt PCs without ever knowing it.

edit: wait, did you say you were gonna get a new case to solve the mobo problem? 0.o
You don't really want to use the bottom pcie slot anyway. It's running at x4 which has a slight (maybe 10%) impact. If you ever upgrade to a better gpu though, the effect will be greater.
