[citation][nom]value21[/nom]Just sounds like another excuse in my opinion. I never said it was going to be easy. You can get an education in America even if you dont have a dollar to your name. There are far too many programs out there. We arent talking about some Third World Country like Vietnam where opportunites just arent even there for you to even better yourself. Where you would kill for any job. Or steal just to feed your family if not sell your body like most the women there.[/citation]

Right wing much?

This website is populated by nutcases who think that everyone can just go out and grab a new degree and start a new job. The opportunities really aren't there in America anymore.

I faced the same situation myself, starting a new career after investing 100k in my old one and twelve years of my life. What I discovered was that in America you really can't start over. But fear not, there are plenty of opportunities in the rest of the world.

If everyone was employed and compensated based on how they valued themselves, we'd have had an economic crash faster and worse than the Soviet Union. Such idealistic concepts are great in theory; They just don't seem to work in reality. The 'grand experiment' failed. Even China now allows entrepreneurship to try to stimulate its economy.

Sometimes businesses hire extra personnel for seasonal work or for certain events/periods. Sometimes they overestimate the workload and hire more. There are situations like that, maybe these 600 people were this kind of personnel. I don't know how many employees work in Blizzard overall. I just googled it, seems about 1800 are in San Diego, i would assume there are around 3000-4000 in total? Firing 600 is a huge percentage and i think it means greed as much as it means situational personell

[citation][nom]isdav59[/nom]wow that is so heart felt, tell that to the 3 million americans without jobs,i am sure they can live on that philosophy[/citation]

Funny. My thought was typical European. Labor=entitlement is the European model.

[citation][nom]isdav59[/nom]i am fine with my job my friend, worked here for 12 years,i am at a point where a lot of people like me stayed so long we are trapped,i know it sounds pathetic, but when your making a certain amount of income. one just cant start over. its not just that simple.i bet most older people like me feel the same[/citation]

When the Model T went into production a blacksmith had little work. I guess they became body repairmen.

[citation][nom]DroKing[/nom]You've made some decent valid points but Blizzard have been making so much more money than they can pocket past 5-8 years or so and now they are pulling this? Whats your excuse for Blizzard aka Activihack's obvious greedy actions just to fatten themselves (lazy Ceos) pockets. Modern Blizzard is a shitty company that's using the old actual blizzard's fame to continue milking the fans by barely making new contents in new games and charging 60 bucks under Activihack's reign.[/citation]

Activision and Blizzard are both owned by the same company Vivendi. So pull your head out of your ass, Activision has no say in what goes on over in Blizz HQ.

[citation][nom]IQ11110002[/nom]That's right you tell them, They are just another commodity,Useless for anything else but to throw away after use(sarcasm). Exactly the mentality of this day and age and the reason the world is going to the shit morally. What was it last year $3.95 billion in profits? Ohh dear no where near enough to keep 600 jobs. sigh....If a compnay is losing money,No prob company needs to make some sacrifices,If it is still turning over a big profit make no mistake IT IS F%$&ING GREEEEEEEEEEEEEED![/citation]
The way a company sees it, if the employees are redundant then they are not needed, all they do is suck up money without actually helping. It does not matter if they are working hard or not unneeded is unneeded. Companies are there to make money and to get bigger and unneeded workers do not help that.

Love all the Americans in this forum griping about corporate policies, while they enjoy one of the highest standards of living on Earth precisely because of the business acumen of said corporations. And if you think you aren't that affluent, consider how you were able to post to this forum...

Companies expand in good times, and contract in down times - always have, always will, because it is necessary to remain competitive, and non-competitive companies become irrelevant and disappear, throwing ALL their employees out of work. All this Blizzard hate and railing against corporate "greed" misses the fundamental point that corporations are never static, any more than a complex living organism is. They gained weight they don't want anymore, so it's time for the corporate diet plan.

Doesn't mean I don't feel badly for those that are out of work - been there myself, and it sucks - but it happens to everyone at some time or another...get over it, move on, and find a better gig!

[citation][nom]isdav59[/nom]we are the slaves of the monetary system.i stand corrected.[/citation]

You should go live in a communism Country. (Tip for moving: China is not communist.)

Wow. I have lost all respect for the average Tom's Hardware user. Like it's been said before (and thumbed down), THEY ARE A BUSINESS!!!!!!! Get over it. This crap about America has no more opportunities, and you can't change careers is a joke. You have to change with the times you old geezers! Go to school and get a degree in something that is actually sought after. Oh you have some kind of computer science degree? Good job. What is your specialty? ERP Solutions, Cloud Computing, Virtualization, etc....??? Oh you don't have one? You think your degree entitles you to a lasting career because you possess the same knowledge/skills as millions of other people? Hahaha. GTFO and go to school.

[citation][nom]isdav59[/nom]idiots,these people worked hard for there pay,not all are paper pushers, most of them are the quality control monitors, but most of all they are average Americans once again losing there jobs because the greed of corporate companies, how can you be doing so good you decide to screw the workers who helped you get there.you might think its funny now but wait till its your turn....laugh that up[/citation]

I don't see why some poeple hate your comment i thought it was a totally valid argument .

[citation][nom]greenspoon[/nom]I love this. The greed of corporate companies! It is a BUSINESS, not a charity. If the employees are not needed they do not need to keep them. Even if the employees are needed they do not have to keep them. It has absolutely nothing to do with greed. I will never understand the mentality of some people. I would hazard to guess you have never ran a company.[/citation]

I love how quick you guys make hypocrits out of yourselfs. one minute you folks will be bitching about how the RIAA and the MPAA are a bunch of dirty corrupt buisness suits , and then the next minute you'll defend a company like blizzard for doing near the same ammount of BS.

you can talk about running a company all you want but FACE THE FACTS, as employees of ANY company you name , it is considered good ettiquette to give the company a two week notice prior to leaving your job , HOWEVER , companies never do nor they expected to ever give layed off employees a two week notice so they can have time to find another job .. NOW that is f--ed up no matter what sticker you slap on it

What a totally useless argument - there is no comparison between what Blizzard and the RIAA/MPAA are doing. Blizzard made a business decision to change their INTERNAL structure, while the RIAA/MPAA are fighting EXTERNAL battles against entities they feel infringe upon their copyrights. Whether you agree with the MPAA (and I don't), these are totally different issues...

LMFAO at reading this: "Blizzard also remains committed to maintaining its high standards of quality for customer service delivery,"

Really?? Really??? I mean were going on a decade and a half for Diablo 3 here.

Dang, so many people refusing to move on. Dude, people mass hire and mass fire, it happens. Do yourself a favor and read "Who Took My Cheese". Seriously, that is an excellent book for EVERYONE here. Also, if you are afraid of being let go, ask yourself why? Are you not being productive enough? Maybe its not you and its your company lacking sales at the top end, then start looking elsewhere. It was no secret Blizzard lost a ton of subscribers. Cutting costs to make up for lack of funds should have come as no surprise to any employee. I don't condemn nor condone how any company handles their own business and finances as long as work regulation laws are being followed (no Foxcon type of environment).

[citation][nom]whysobluepandabear[/nom]I also love when people have absolutely no understanding of greed. You do understand that the sky is not the limit when discussing economics? Eventually, it crashes - and you can only profit so much, before having to make so many cuts, it starts hurting everyone around you. Problem with capitalism....people only look at money and profits - literally ignoring everything else. Year, after year, has to be better and bigger. How long can you keep it up? These people love money and possessions over everything else - let's be real, if you were dying of cancer, they'd rather see you rot, than use a spare million in their account full of billions. They'd also rather see the collapse of the entire world, before they let anything from their self-entitled asses go. Business. Job creators. Blah, blah. It's sad really - we don't live to live - we live to work, and be slaves to a made up system, where nothing really means anything, other than a few get to live to live, while the rest work for them.[/citation]

Close but no cigar. You are a slave to bankers. What we have today is quasi-fascism under the guise of "evil capitalism". The free markets died in 1913 when the Federal Reserve was created and given the ability to send out an infinite amount of credit and debt. Yes debt. See that $20 in your wallet? That represents an IOU of $20 from some other poor sap. You aren't $20 "richer" but rather hold someone else's debt that's equivalent to 20 federal reserve notes (which becomes devalued every day). I think is should be mandatory that everyone wake's up and smells the inflation. Watch this very short but very good video on what's really going on: /watch?v=Dc3sKwwAaCU

You write as if any currency has some actual value. It's all a trading and confidence game. Do you think it would be any better if it was gold bullion? You can't eat it or keep warm with it. It may be more abstracted, but it's all the same. Besides, even if we traded beef and blankets, you can't take it with you. Life is finite and not very long.

This just shows how ignorant you are of the rest of the world.

I live and work in one of the poorest countries on earth, but internet access is plentiful and download speeds are faster and better than what I had on the East Coast. Internet access costs a lot in America... that's true I guess...

Why is everyone angry? with anger comes hate, with hate come suffering, there is no need to hate, I have been fired or quit many jobs its just fact of life, Blizzard is only announcing this for stock holders benefit, it could have let those go and I am sure it does more per year but does not announce it.
