[citation][nom]firedust[/nom]Because swastikas are now seen as a symbol of hate. It's a shame that the original meaning has been perverted, but that doesn't change the fact that most people today associate it with Nazism.[/citation]
well truth be told what a symbol meant doesnt really matter to the public , what matters to most people is what it means today. take teh pentegram for instance originally it was a druidic symbol used in rebirth and harvest rituals , but durring teh middle ages teh roman catholics in thier quest to stamp out all non christian religons labeled the pentegram as a satanic symbol. eventually most the druids of europe were wiped out and every one forgot what the symbol really meant until more reccent times when it was revived to it's original purpose by the wiccans , however even with this new revival of the pentegram most people still view this sysmbol as a satanic symbol because christian denominations stil say it is.
another example of how history cahnges teh meaning of a symbol , is the eygitian cross , today it represents woman hood and feminality, originally it was just a royal stamp used by the first female ruler of egypt for money as well as messages , though this example is unique from teh other in that , while the meaning of this symbol did change ,it wasn'tcahnged to something compeltely different given that the Queen that used this was the first female ruler in the history of not only egypt but the world as a whole really.
